Allathan Associates was founded in 1974 to provide business advice and farm consultancy to farmers and landowners. Many clients seek regular management advice to help achieve their objectives, whilst others will hire services only in response to a particular business issue or opportunity, such as acquiring additional land, starting a new venture, obtaining grant support, environmental advice, hiri

ng a key employee, or changing a business structure. Our client base is primarily concentrated in North-east Scotland, although instructions are undertaken throughout Scotland, the UK, and occasionally abroad. Our credentials are founded on a broad knowledge of agricultural science and practice supplemented by specialisms in pro-active land and business management, financial management and control, and agronomy. The Firm has extensive experience of the hands-on management of farms and estates, the recruitment of key people, the creation and restructuring of rural businesses, dealing with issues of farm ownership and tenancy, valuation of agricultural assets, providing business plans, dealing with Banks, Accountants, Solicitors, handling IACS and Basic Payment Scheme matters and giving practical advice on crops, livestock and rural grants. Know-how and experience acquired by Allathan Associates has allowed the Firm to prepare reports in support of arbitration, litigation, compensation and planning cases. Many of our landowner and tenant clients have been advised by the firm since it was set up in matters relating to rents, seasonal lets, land tenure issues and agreements, limited partnership and contract farming arrangements. Allathan Associates operates from its offices in Turriff and Maud which is ideally located to serve the agricultural sector throughout the North-East of Scotland and beyond. Allathan Associates is seeking an experienced book-keeper to join the team!

Allathan Associates is a firm of agricultural consultants and land managers, providing professional services to farms and estates throughout North East Scotland. We are seeking an experienced book-keeper to support our busy team based at our Maud and Turriff offices. The role will involve assisting clients and running our own book-keeping and invoicing system.

Key responsibilities include:

- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Processing invoices, payments and expenses
- Preparing account reconciliations and financial reports
- Assisting with year-end procedures
- Providing general financial and administrative support to the team

The successful candidate must:

- Have a strong knowledge of book-keeping and payroll
- Be confident using accounting packages and MS Office software.
- Be numerate, maintain high standards of accuracy, and have the ability to meet deadlines at key periods.

A relevant qualification and a working knowledge of farming, estates and rural businesses would be an advantage, though not essential.

The position is full time, although consideration will be given to flexible working hours for the right candidate.

Allathan Associates can announce the acquisition of Chalmers Rural, the farm consultancy business ran by Gwen Chalmers. Gwen joins the team based in our Maud office.

Gwen has worked in the North East of Scotland for over 25 years advising farmers on best practice for environmental schemes, whole farm management, BPS applications and regulation, NVZ record keeping and carbon auditing. In 1998 she travelled to Ontario and Prince Edward Island to study fertiliser use and GPS as part of a John Fotheringham Scholarship.

Gwen has a B. Sc in Biology having studied at Paisley University and SAC Auchincruive. Gwen was brought up on a mixed livestock and arable farms in Lancashire and Aberdeenshire, she now has a small herd of pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle.
