UK Economy: Challenges & Opportunities ⚖️📈
The UK’s growth forecast has been cut from 2% to 1%, but the Spring Statement offered some positives. Planning reforms were scored well, and disposable income could grow nearly twice as fast as expected. While inflation remains above target, a recession this year still looks unlikely.
📉 Interest rates – The Bank of England is expected to cut rates, but high inflation (especially in services) means they’ll likely move cautiously.
🛡️ Defence boost – A £2.2bn increase in spending, with at least 10% of the MoD’s budget going towards AI, drones, and new tech.
📊 UK stocks – The UK market, with its value-driven, large-cap bias, remains attractive, particularly in volatile conditions.
Globally, uncertainty—especially around US trade policy—continues to weigh on markets. But Germany’s biggest stimulus package in a generation could shift Europe’s economic outlook.
In a world full of surprises, a lack of UK drama might not be a bad thing! What’s your take? 👇
UK economic growth prospects may look anaemic but there were glimmers of positivity in the government’s Spring Statement.
