When should you start de-risking your investments?

As retirement gets closer, it's natural to think differently about investment risk. But de-risking doesn't mean giving up on growth or moving everything into cash.

Instead, it's about finding the right balance between protecting your savings and giving them the
opportunity to continue growing throughout retirement.

Regular reviews can help ensure your investments continue to work towards your long-term plans.

The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and can go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.

Breaking up with bad financial habits can set you up for a better future.

Here’s some habits to start changing:

1.Impulse purchases – clever marketing tactics can make us buy things we didn’t set out to purchase, and if you’re impulse buying regularly this will soon add up.

Break the habit by writing a list, sticking to it and resisting temptation of discounts or offers.

2.Not sticking to a budget… or not even having one! A budget will help you plan your spending on regular expenses, including your saving or other needs/goals. Break the habit by finding a budgeting plan that is realistic and works for you. Keep track by using a spreadsheet, notebook, or online banking app.

2. Neglecting your savings – saving might not be your priority right now, and that’s okay,
but the longer you leave it, the less time you have for your money to grow. Break the habit by contributing little and often. Set up an automatic transfer if you need to!

3.Letting your insurance policies and subscriptions renew unchecked – providers don’t
always make it obvious that a better offer is available to you. Have another look at subscription plans or insurance policy quotes to re-evaluate the best option for you.

Fixed Rate vs Tracker Mortgage: Which makes more sense right now?

If your current mortgage deal is coming to an end, one of the biggest decisions you'll face is whether to choose a fixed-rate or tracker mortgage.

Fixed Rate Mortgage
✔ Predictable monthly payments
✔ Protection if interest rates rise
✔ Easier budgeting and long-term planning

Tracker Mortgage
✔ Potential to benefit if interest rates fall
✔ Often lower initial rates
✔ Greater flexibility with lower or no early repayment charges
The right choice depends on your circumstances, financial goals, and how comfortable
you are with changes in monthly payments.

If you were choosing today, would you prefer the certainty of a fixed rate or the flexibility of a tracker?

We can advise you on all your options.

Important information: Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up
repayments on your mortgage.

The Regency 5 Stages of Advice
Financial planning isn't a one-off event — it's an ongoing process that evolves as your circumstances, priorities and goals change over time.

Our structured approach is designed to help clients make informed decisions at every
stage of their financial journey:

Discover – Understanding your current circumstances, objectives and priorities.

Research – Exploring the options available and considering solutions aligned with your needs.

Recommend – Presenting tailored recommendations and explaining how they may help meet your objectives.

Implement – Putting agreed plans into place and ensuring everything is completed efficiently.

Review – Regularly reviewing your arrangements to ensure they remain appropriate as life changes.

Every client's situation is different, which is why financial planning should be tailored to individual circumstances and reviewed regularly.

Defined Benefit vs Defined Contribution Pensions – What's the
Difference?

When planning for retirement, understanding the type of pension you have is essential.

Defined Benefit (DB) Scheme
Often known as a final salary or career average pension, a DB scheme provides a guaranteed income in retirement based on factors such as your salary and length of
service.

Defined Contribution (DC) Scheme
With a DC pension, the value of your retirement fund depends on how much is contributed and how the underlying investments perform over time.

While both pension types can play an important role in retirement planning, they work
very di􀆯erently and understanding those di􀆯erences can help you make informeddecisions about your future.

Do you know which type of pension you have?
