Breaking up with bad financial habits can set you up for a better future.

Here’s some habits to start changing:

1.Impulse purchases – clever marketing tactics can make us buy things we didn’t set out to purchase, and if you’re impulse buying regularly this will soon add up.

Break the habit by writing a list, sticking to it and resisting temptation of discounts or offers.

2.Not sticking to a budget… or not even having one! A budget will help you plan your spending on regular expenses, including your saving or other needs/goals. Break the habit by finding a budgeting plan that is realistic and works for you. Keep track by using a spreadsheet, notebook, or online banking app.

2. Neglecting your savings – saving might not be your priority right now, and that’s okay,
but the longer you leave it, the less time you have for your money to grow. Break the habit by contributing little and often. Set up an automatic transfer if you need to!

3.Letting your insurance policies and subscriptions renew unchecked – providers don’t
always make it obvious that a better offer is available to you. Have another look at subscription plans or insurance policy quotes to re-evaluate the best option for you.

Fixed Rate vs Tracker Mortgage: Which makes more sense right now?

If your current mortgage deal is coming to an end, one of the biggest decisions you'll face is whether to choose a fixed-rate or tracker mortgage.

Fixed Rate Mortgage
✔ Predictable monthly payments
✔ Protection if interest rates rise
✔ Easier budgeting and long-term planning

Tracker Mortgage
✔ Potential to benefit if interest rates fall
✔ Often lower initial rates
✔ Greater flexibility with lower or no early repayment charges
The right choice depends on your circumstances, financial goals, and how comfortable
you are with changes in monthly payments.

If you were choosing today, would you prefer the certainty of a fixed rate or the flexibility of a tracker?

We can advise you on all your options.

Important information: Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up
repayments on your mortgage.

The Regency 5 Stages of Advice
Financial planning isn't a one-off event — it's an ongoing process that evolves as your circumstances, priorities and goals change over time.

Our structured approach is designed to help clients make informed decisions at every
stage of their financial journey:

Discover – Understanding your current circumstances, objectives and priorities.

Research – Exploring the options available and considering solutions aligned with your needs.

Recommend – Presenting tailored recommendations and explaining how they may help meet your objectives.

Implement – Putting agreed plans into place and ensuring everything is completed efficiently.

Review – Regularly reviewing your arrangements to ensure they remain appropriate as life changes.

Every client's situation is different, which is why financial planning should be tailored to individual circumstances and reviewed regularly.

A financial plan can make a real difference.

The latest SJP Financial Health Report highlights the positive impact that planning and professional advice can have on financial confidence and long-term wealth.

Key findings include:

-50% of those under 34 have a financial plan in place

-Households who had invested for 5+ years had an average wealth of £269,690

-Those with a financial plan are 3x more likely to say their financial situation has improved in the past year

-41% of those receiving ongoing financial advice report improved financial wellbeing, compared with just 13% of those without advice

While economic pressures continue to affect many households, having a clear financial plan can help provide greater confidence and direction for the future.

Defined Benefit vs Defined Contribution Pensions – What's the
Difference?

When planning for retirement, understanding the type of pension you have is essential.

Defined Benefit (DB) Scheme
Often known as a final salary or career average pension, a DB scheme provides a guaranteed income in retirement based on factors such as your salary and length of
service.

Defined Contribution (DC) Scheme
With a DC pension, the value of your retirement fund depends on how much is contributed and how the underlying investments perform over time.

While both pension types can play an important role in retirement planning, they work
very di􀆯erently and understanding those di􀆯erences can help you make informeddecisions about your future.

Do you know which type of pension you have?

The 2026/27 tax year introduces several key changes that could impact both individuals and
businesses.

 increased dividend tax rates
 Reduced tax relief on venture capital trusts
 Making Tax Digital for certain taxpayers
 From 2027—such as potential inheritance tax implications for pensions and limits on cash
ISAs—are also worth noting.
Understanding these updates is essential for e􀆯ective financial planning and making the most of
available allowances.

St. James’s Place does not offer a cash ISA. Taxation rules can change at any time and are dependent on individual circumstances.

Investments such as equities (or a Stocks and Shares ISA) can rise and fall in value, so returns aren’t
guaranteed. Cash held in a deposit account (or Cash ISA) o􀆯ers greater stability in nominal terms. Over
longer periods, however, many people choose to invest because inflation can reduce the real value of
cash savings over time — although investment outcomes are never certain and you could get back less
than the initial sum invested.

Global trade depends on a few key routes!

Here are some of the world’s busiest shipping lanes:
• Strait of Hormuz → transports around a quarter of global oil
• Suez Canal → key route for goods travelling between Asia and Europe
• English Channel → the busiest shipping lane worldwide
• Malacca Strait → major link between the Indian & Pacific Oceans
• Panama Canal → vital shortcut connecting the Atlantic & Pacific

Why does it matter?
Even small disruptions can impact supply chains, fuel prices, and household costs worldwide.
A reminder of how connected the global economy really is.

Planning for their future starts today 💷🌱

A Junior ISA (JISA) can be a simple, tax-efficient way to help build long-term savings for your child.

✔ Tax-efficient growth
✔ A financial head start at 18
✔ Family & friends can contribute

Whether it’s university, a first car, or a future home deposit, even small contributions today could make a meaningful difference over time.

Equity investments (and Stocks and Shares ISAs) fluctuate in value, so returns aren’t guaranteed. While cash savings provide short term stability, inflation can erode their purchasing power over time. This is why many investors use equities for longer term goals, although you could still get back less than you invest.
Starting early can help build strong foundations for the future.
