Bespoke Lichfield 10th year anniversary
I have known Angela for over 14 years, and I had the pleasure on the 15th of August of celebrating the 10th anniversary of her shop in Lichfield. It’s always wonderful to support small businesses and this time I brought Anna the bear home with me!
For over 25 years, Angela Burman has been creating characters, stories and little worlds of her own. A lifelong maker and storyteller, Angela has always had a fascination with bringing things to life — whether through art, design or the simple joy of making something by hand.
Her creative journey eventually led to the creation of Burman Bears: individually handmade characters with their own personalities, expressions and stories. Each bear is lovingly created by Angela, often taking many hours of careful work, and no two are ever quite the same. They are not simply bears to be collected; they are little characters waiting to become part of someone’s story.
Music has also become an important part of Angela’s storytelling. She often chooses music to accompany her characters, using melody, rhythm and atmosphere to draw out an emotion or reveal something of their personality.
For Angela, making has always been about much more than creating beautiful objects. It is about character, connection, emotion and storytelling carrying something of the maker who brought it into the world.
Through Burman Bears Angela continues to do what she has always loved most — making magic with her hands, using story and music to breathe life into her characters, and giving her imagination somewhere to live
