We're proud to be sponsoring Thrive Autism and Norwich Blackfriars Rotary Club's Race Across Norfolk 2026 event!

Thickbroom Mortgages is supporting this exciting new challenge, inspired by the BBC's Race Across the World. This event aims to supports Thrive Autism and its vision to create a dedicated support centre in Norfolk, as well as the Rotary Club, which supports many local and international charities.

Last week, sponsors and contestants gathered for the first time ahead of the inaugural race taking place on the 26-27th September. A particular highlight was hearing from Caroline and Tom Bridge, winners of Season 5 of Race Across the World. They shared stories from their incredible journey through China and India and gave their insights into the determination, resilience and teamwork required to cross the finish line.

We're especially proud that our own Steve Measures is part of the organising team alongside Colin Lang, founder of Thrive Autism and member of the Rotary Club. Their passion and commitment are helping turn this event into reality.

Is bank interest already taxed before it hits your account?

No - lots of people think that any interest you earn from savings is automatically taxed or exempt from tax.

In reality, most bank interest is paid before tax and not always tax-free.

You may have a tax liability if your interest goes over your Personal Savings Allowance which depends on your income and tax band.

For basic rate, the allowance is £1,000.
For higher rate payers, it's £500.
For the additional rate, it's £0.

So if you're earning interest: be aware of your allowance, keep track of what you earn and check with an accountant if you need to self-declare.
