🚗 Claiming business mileage? You could now be entitled to more tax relief.

The tax-free mileage rate for cars and vans has increased from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the 2026/27 tax year.

Whether you’re a sole trader, company director or employee using your own vehicle for business, it’s important to ensure you’re claiming the correct mileage allowance.

Keeping accurate mileage records can help maximise the relief you’re entitled to while ensuring your claims remain compliant with HMRC requirements.

If you’re unsure whether you’re claiming the correct amount, our team is here to help.

🏡 SDLT: What counts as “mixed-use” property?

Mixed-use properties can qualify for lower Stamp Duty Land Tax rates — but HMRC is scrutinising claims closely.

A recent tribunal case found that a property with a fishing stream and island was STILL classed as residential because the land formed part of the home’s grounds.

The lesson?
Just because land is unusual or separate doesn’t automatically make it mixed use.

If you’re buying property and considering mixed-use SDLT treatment, professional advice is essential.
