🚨 HMRC ARE CHANGING THE WAY SELF ASSESSMENT WORKS

If you’re self-employed or receive income from property, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is coming — and it’s time to get ready.

For those already required to use MTD, the first quarterly update deadline has now passed. If you haven’t registered, set up compatible software or started keeping your records digitally, don’t leave it until HMRC come knocking.

And there’s another important date to know…

📅 6 April 2027

If your gross qualifying income is over £30,000, you will generally be required to join MTD from April 2027. HMRC will use your 2025/26 tax return to identify who falls into this group. (Making Tax Digital for Income Tax⁠)

That means your 2025/26 figures could determine whether you’re pulled into MTD from April 2027.

The new system means keeping digital records and sending quarterly updates to HMRC throughout the year — so waiting until January to sort everything out will no longer be an option. (Making Tax Digital for Income Tax⁠)
