Many people decide to take professional advice when making a financial decision. Here are our top tips when choosing the right financial adviser for you:

✅ Ask friends and family if they have a recommendation. Word of mouth is a great starting point.

✅Search www.unbiased.co.uk. They have a network of 27,000 advisers! You can find the financial advisers closest to your postcode area.

✅Check the FCA register to find an authorised financial adviser near you. The FCA website tells you if a firm is qualified, authorised and above board. https://register.fca.org.uk/s/

✅ Find out if the financial adviser is independent or restricted. Independent means they have access to the whole of market. Restricted may mean an adviser only gives advice on one area such as pensions, or it may mean they only have access to certain providers.

✅Book a free initial appointment. Most advisers offer this. Have a brief summary to hand of your financial position - incomings, outgoings, savings, debts and plans for the future.

✅During your meeting, ask what the adviser would charge for their services. It may be a one-off advice fee, an hourly rate or percentage charge for their initial and ongoing advice. This all depends on the type of financial advice you need.
