Uplift to mileage allowance
After much lobbying, the mileage allowance that employers can pay their employees for using their own vehicle for business journeys has been raised from 45p per mile to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 miles. This takes effect from 6 April 2026. It isn’t a significant increase but better than not doing it at all!

Should I have my buy-to-lets in a company?
As more tax hikes have been aimed at landlords is it worth considering using a company for your buy-to-lets.
No surprise but it depends as there are many aspects to think about. However, if you are a basic rate or non-taxpayer and need the rental income to live on you are probably better off owing properties personally. If you don’t need to use the money to live on, are a higher rate taxpayer and have plans to pass the properties on to family then it may be more favourable to operate through a company.
This is a very simplistic view and each individuals circumstances should be considered before any final decisions are made.
