The four subscriptions shown in this screenshot add up to £55.44 per month, and that's only what fits on one screen. Businesses probably also have Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe, Zoom, Xero, QuickBooks, industry memberships and a growing collection of other recurring payments quietly leaving the account each month.
Be honest... when was the last time you actually checked every subscription leaving your business account?
Most of us sign up for software with the best intentions, or join a free trial to see how something works... then forget about it. You get busy, and a few months later, there's a fair chance you're still paying for things you no longer use, forgot you had, or replaced with something else.
This isn't a huge task that needs a whole day set aside. You can count this as a microtask that only takes 5 minutes:
• Open your bank statement or banking app
• Search your outgoing payments
• If something looks unfamiliar, unused, or no longer needed, go to the app or service and cancel it.
Five minutes of admin could save hundreds of pounds over the course of a year.
Sometimes these small leaks can be a sign of a bigger issue. Businesses often accumulate software, subscriptions and processes over time without ever stepping back to ask whether everything still makes sense.
That's exactly the sort of thing we look at during a financial systems review. A few simple changes can often save money, reduce admin and make the business easier to run.
Have a look at your subscriptions today. You might be surprised by what you find.
