5 Things You Need to Know About the 2026/7 Tax Year Changes
No.3 - Corporation Tax: The S455 Charge & Late Filing Penalties ⚠️
The main corporation tax rates aren't changing in 2026/7 — but two updates could catch businesses off guard if they're not prepared.
1️⃣ The S455 Charge is Going Up If you have an overdrawn director's loan account, take note. The Section 455 charge — applied to loans not repaid within 9 months of the accounting period end — is rising to 35.75% for loans made on or after 6 April 2026. This is a significant increase and warrants urgent attention.
2️⃣ New Late Filing Penalties For corporation tax returns due on or after 1 April 2026: 📌 Initial penalty: £200 📌 Over 3 months late: £400 📌 Repeat offenders face escalating fines
Staying compliant has never been more important. Our outsourced finance services at TAG Accountants ensure your records are always in order and your filings are always on time — so penalties simply aren't something you need to worry about.

☀️ Dreaming of a summer holiday but can't quite switch off from work?
That nagging worry — "what if something goes wrong while I'm away?" — is one of the most common things we hear from business owners. And it's a sign that your business might be running you, rather than the other way around.
The good news? With the right systems, processes, and support in place, your business really can keep ticking over without you being glued to your phone on the beach. 🏖️
At TAG Accountants, we work with business owners to help them build a more structured, streamlined operation — so you can take the time off you deserve, with confidence.
This summer, give yourself permission to actually switch off. 🌴

The Employment Rights Act
4 Things You Need to Know — No. 2: Family Leave & Statutory Sick Pay
Significant changes are coming to family leave and sick pay — and they place greater responsibility on employers right from an employee's very first day.
Day-One Rights Statutory Paternity Leave and Unpaid Parental Leave are now available from the first day of employment. If your HR policies and payroll processes haven't been updated yet, now is the time.
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) The three-day waiting period is gone. The lower earnings threshold is gone. SSP is now payable from day one of illness — regardless of what an employee earns.
For businesses with high staff turnover, this will have a real cost impact. Our outsourced finance team can help you navigate the payroll transitions smoothly.

5 Things You Need to Know About the 2026/7 Tax Year Changes
No.2 Income Tax: Watch Out for the Dividend Tax Increase 📈
Most income tax rates and thresholds are staying the same in 2026/7 — but there's one significant exception that company directors and shareholders need to be aware of: dividend tax rates are rising.
Here's the breakdown:
Basic rate (up to £37,700) from 8.75% to 10.75%
Higher rate (£37,701 – £125,140) from 33.75% to 35.75%
Additional rate (above £125,140) from 39.35% to 39.35% (unchanged)
If dividends make up a meaningful part of your income, a 2% increase might sound small — but over a full year it can add up to a significant amount.
Now is a smart time to review your remuneration strategy. Our tax planning specialists at TAG Accountants can help you understand exactly how this affects your take-home pay and whether there are more tax-efficient options available to you.

The Employment Rights Act
4 Things You Need to Know 🚨
No.1 Dismissal, Probationary Periods, and Employment Contracts
The Employment Rights Act is introducing major shifts in how employers must handle contracts and dismissals. Here are the key updates you need to prepare for:
⚖️ Unfair Dismissal: Employees will soon be able to bring unfair dismissal claims after just six months of service (down from two years). Plus, the cap on compensation is being removed, meaning awards could become unlimited.
🚫 Re-Engagement Practices: You will face strict limitations on dismissing employees to impose changes to key contract terms, like pay or hours. Doing so will automatically be considered unfair unless severe financial hardship can be proven.
⏱️ Probationary Periods: With rights kicking in at six months, we strongly advise reviewing your recruitment and onboarding procedures now. Many businesses are shortening probationary periods to 3-4 months to properly assess new recruits before these extra protections take effect.
Our advisory team is ready to help you navigate these updates and protect your business. Reach out today! 🤝
