The deadline for completing your self-assessment is rapidly approaching, with just over 10 days left. For the tax year 2022/23, a significant 96% of tax returns have been successfully filed online. To guide you through the process we have outlined some key Information and links below:
Visit the HMRC website and either create a Government Gateway account or log in to your existing account.
Once logged in, navigate to the "Self Assessment" section, where you will find options for filing your tax return. If you use an accountant, they can submit it on your behalf (provided they have access to your HMRC account as an agent) after your approval of the figures and confirmation that no other income has been omitted.
The deadline for submitting your Self Assessment for 2022/23 is 31 January 2024. Failure to meet this deadline incurs penalties. A late filing penalty of £100 is imposed after 1 day if your tax return and additional penalties for up to 3 months late, with additional charges for later submissions or delayed tax bill payments.
After submitting, you should receive a confirmation screen along with a reference number. It is crucial to save this information for your records.
