Change Accountants Change Accountants are a firm of York accountants who are passionate about changing people's perception of accountants. We love the stuff you hate.

Change Accountants is a friendly, modern accountancy firm in York, working mainly with established owner-managed businesses and limited companies across York, Yorkshire and beyond. We believe your accounts should be more than something you look at once a year. Your numbers should help you understand how your business is performing, make better decisions, improve profits and plan for what's next. We love the stuff you hate: accounts, tax, VAT, payroll and bookkeeping. We also help with tax planning, management accounts, Xero, FreeAgent and business advice. We're proactive, straightforward and easy to talk to. Whether your business is growing, changing, becoming more complex or you've simply outgrown your current accountant, we're here to make the accounting side of running your business work better. We’ll change your mind about accountants.

A very proud moment today.

Tynam McNeill has worked alongside me for 15 years (yes… I started very young!) and today he finally received his ACCA Practising Certificate 🎉

I’m incredibly proud of him and the brilliant accountant he has become. Watching someone grow professionally over that many years is a really special thing.

For anyone outside the profession, getting an ACCA Practising Certificate is no small feat. It follows 13 very tough exams, plus years of proving your experience and technical knowledge in practice.
Tynam has absolutely earned it and I couldn’t be happier for him.

We’ve got some exciting plans for the next few years at Change Accountants, so watch this space… 👀

And if you’re an awesome accountant looking for a new challenge, we’re currently recruiting too.

We're growing our team!

If you need a Change, we are on the look out for bookkeepers, payroll technicians and accountants.

CHANGE are looking for wonderful, friendly, ambitious bookkeepers to join our team.
On top of the normal things you would expect from an employer, Change offers:

- A POSITIVE work environment, where you can actually enjoy work (it is a very large part of your life, why would you choose to be miserable at work!)
- Career PROGRESSION. We will pay for and organise all your CPD and support/encourage any career ambitions. We are a Platinum Approved ACCA employer and an AAT Approved employer.
- UNLIMITED holiday. We want all our team to be happy and have great mental health and if that means you need time off to do something you love, or look after someone you love, then we will support that.
- FLEXIBLE working. We offer hybrid working for many roles. We are also happy to accommodate part-time or staggered returns to work. Great if you have been on a career break or if you have dependents who rely on you being around for certain times of the day.
- FREE and plentiful parking. No more fighting for expensive parking spaces. There is also a bus stop right outside, if you prefer not to use your car (unfortunately due to the nature of some roles, a driving licence and access to a vehicle will be required).
- Great and VARIED clients. We are in the lucky position where we can be selective who we work with and we only work with nice, friendly and (generally) well behaved clients. We work with a wide range of industries and businesses.

Sounds great, huh?

It takes a special kind of person to be a bookkeeper. It can be a high pressured role, managing a lot of different clients at once and meeting immovable deadlines. It is also a varied, interesting and often rewarding role and we are lucky to already have some great team members who fill this role, but we need more!
If you LOVE the stuff that most people hate (paperwork, uploading information, reconciliations, VAT!) then we’d love to hear from you. Here are some more details about the role:
Your day to day job will include:

- Bookkeeping on Xero, FreeAgent and very occasionally Quickbooks.
- Working with add-ons such as Dext and Hub-doc
- Reviewing clients’ bookkeeping and preparing VAT returns
- Dealing with client queries
- Offering training and advice to client’s in respect of their bookkeeping and accounting software.

You should have the following:
- AAT qualified (or other similar qualification)
Certification or working knowledge of Xero, Freeagent and potentially Quickbooks.
- A working knowledge of CIS and payroll is desirable.
- Up to date VAT knowledge (e.g. DRC and EU VAT rules, as well as all the basic VAT rules)
- At least 2 years’ experience
- Impressive IT skills
- Driving licence
- Ability to manage your time and meet deadlines
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship

This can be a full-time or part-time role. We will also support someone who is wanting a staggered return to work or needs flexibility in their working day. Once any training is complete, we can agree a hybrid working model if desired.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

(Part-time hours: 16-30 per week)

FTE Salary: £22,000.00-£28,000.00 per year

Please apply via Indeed

Hello

It has been a long time since my last update and just before I get into it... most of you know Ty or will have spoken to him at some point. He and his partner welcomed a baby boy, Otis, on the 1st March. We are excitedly waiting for the office visit, so we can have cuddles (with the baby, not Ty, he's very much a personal space kind of guy). Ty will return from parental leave at the end of March/beginning of April. They are all doing well and we have been passing on your congratulations.

Onto the boring part...

If you missed the Spring Statement earlier this afternoon, well done... it was not only boring, but some of the main announcements are either totally irrelevant for most of my clients, or are being introduced so far in the future that I am certain they will have changed shape numerous times by that point.

Here is a summary of what Hunt had to say:

1. As widely reported over the last week or so, the energy price guarantee will remain capped at £2,500 for the next 3 months (if your usage is "normal") .

2. There will be "full expensing" of new assets (I believe this only applies to limited companies). Don't be impressed. We currently have 100% annual investment allowances for asset purchases up to £1m - so this will only benefit you if you buy an asset that costs more than £1million...

3. The corporation tax rise is going ahead as planned next month. This will affect you if your profits are over £50,000, or if you have more than one business interest then it will affect lower profits too.

4. There will be enhanced R&D (research & development) credits for SME's IF your spend on R&D makes up more than 40% of your expenditure.

5. There will be 30 hours of free childcare for parents of infants over 9 months to 2 years, if they are working more than 16 hours a week. Don't get excited, this is being phased in from NEXT year, with the 30 hours only hitting in September 2025 (yes, you read that right)

6. There is a new buzzword for us all to get irritated by - "returnerships". This is to encourage the over 50's, who thought they could retire until they were hit by the cost of living crisis, to get back to work... lucky them. The only amusing part of the speech was when Jeremy Hunt called the madam Deputy Speaker an old lady - and she did not take it well (as you'd expect). Good for her for calling him out.
I am sure there will be some more info on these new apprenticeships, sorry...returnerships, soon.

7. The cap on annual pension contributions will increase from £40k a year to £60k a year. If you are affected by this hopefully your IFA will be in touch.

8. The £1m (ish) lifetime allowance for tax relieved pension savings has been abolished. Although I believe there will be a cap on the 25% tax free lump sum, at 25% of the current rate, so c.£250,000 tax free. Turns out this policy change can be done immediately (unlike other policies, weird that) and will come into effect from April 2023. Again, speak to your IFA if you think you can benefit from this change.

9. There was the usual chat about "investment zones"... the same thing is announced every budget and probably will have no impact on any of my clients but I will of course pass on any details as and when they come through.

There were the other usual announcements re duties, levies, caps etc, but these will be widely reported, so I have left them out for brevity's sake.

That is it for now. I will probably send out more details in the next few days/week, as and when more information is available and I have fully digested it all.

If you have any questions, please let me know

Kind regards

Stacey
