SEBI has introduced Specialized Investment Funds (SIF) as the newest asset class and it has garnered 37,000 cr AUM in just a year.

This is start of the Series.

What is SIF all about?

As an investor, we all know - "Buy", "Average" when it comes to investing.

We expect to make money only when the markets go long. That's why keep doing SIP, accumulate more units, rupee cost averaging as concepts gained prominence.

Having said that, markets always doesnt go in one direction.

They go down and also get into consolidated mode most of the times.

Now, can't you make money when the market behaves like this? - Absolutely, you can.

This is called Shorting.

SEBI has allowed fund managers to leverage this option of Shorting (Naked) (we will talk about hedging later) up to 25% of fund size and make money.
