FINAL POST DRAFT — Advance Tax Mistake That Cost My Client Thousands
Last week, a client came to me with a total income of ₹20 lakhs.
✔ Salary: ₹15 lakhs (TDS deducted)
✔ Interest Income: ₹4 lakhs
✔ Other Income: ₹1 lakh
✔ TDS on Interest: 10% only
Now here’s the catch 👇
Since he was already in the 30% slab, the interest income of ₹4 lakhs and the additional ₹1 lakh income were also taxable @ 30%.
But only 10% TDS was deducted by the bank on the interest income.
📌 Balance 20% tax was still payable by him — and it was NOT paid on time.
Result?
He ended up paying heavy penal interest under Sections 234B & 234C because his tax liability exceeded ₹10,000 and he did not pay advance tax.

🛑 Don’t Make This Costly Mistake
If your tax liability for the year is likely to exceed ₹10,000, you MUST pay advance tax.
Next Deadline: 15th December
Pay at least 75% of your total tax liability before this date to avoid interest.
