Attention all food lovers and delivery enthusiasts! The fitment committee of state and central government GST officials have recently conducted a review on the taxation of delivery charges by food delivery companies like Swiggy and Zomato. This comes after a notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence last year, questioning the classification of delivery charges.

The debate stands on whether these charges, when bundled with food supplies, should be considered as part of the food supply and be taxed at a higher GST rate of 18%..

The delivery services provided by these companies have become an essential part of our daily lives and it is crucial to ensure that any changes in taxation do not burden the consumers.

The fitment committee has taken into account all relevant factors and the decision will be announced soon.
