One insight from the COFP Annual Retreat has stayed with us.

As part of our workshop on Portfolio Design & Asset Allocation, we asked participants to complete a simple sentence:

"A great portfolio is one that..."

What surprised us wasn't just the answers—it was what was missing.

Very few people spoke about returns.

Instead, they spoke about peace of mind, resilience, simplicity, and helping clients achieve their life goals.

That got us thinking.

As an industry, we have become very good at measuring returns. Every investment app prominently displays CAGR, XIRR, benchmark comparisons, and daily gains or losses. Naturally, investors become return-focused because that's the language they're constantly exposed to.

But very few platforms tell us:

- How much downside risk was taken to achieve those returns.
- How resilient the portfolio was during market stress.
- Whether the client could actually stay invested through difficult periods.

Ultimately, the return an investor experiences depends not only on the portfolio's performance, but also on whether they remain invested long enough for compounding to work.

Perhaps that's why the conversations at the workshop repeatedly came back to the same themes: thoughtful asset allocation, disciplined rebalancing, managing client behaviour, and building portfolios that clients can live with—not just invest in.

Returns matter. They always will.

But perhaps the better question is not "What CAGR did this portfolio generate?" but "What kind of journey did the client have to endure to earn that CAGR?"

Grateful to all the facilitators and all the participants for making it such a thoughtful discussion. The exchange of ideas reminded us that while portfolio philosophies may differ, the ultimate objective remains the same: helping clients achieve better outcomes with confidence.

The wealth management profession is evolving rapidly.

New technologies, changing regulations, evolving client expectations, and increasingly complex markets mean that continuous learning is no longer optional—it's essential.

The COFP Annual Retreat brings together practitioners to discuss ideas that matter in practice. From portfolio design and investment frameworks to other emerging aspects of financial advisory, the sessions are designed to encourage learning, discussion, and the exchange of experiences.

Most families avoid writing a will not because of legal complexity, but because conversations around wealth, inheritance, and mortality still feel uncomfortable.

As we shared with NDTV India , succession planning in India is often shaped more by family psychology than paperwork. In many households, financial information remains concentrated with one or two members, while important discussions around asset ownership and wealth transfer are postponed indefinitely.

https://www.ndtv.com/business-news/stock-market-sensex-share-market-nifty-live-updates-today-22-may-us-iran-war-donald-trump-hormuz-oil-prices-11530862 #554586

But as India enters a phase of significant intergenerational wealth transfer, the absence of clear planning can eventually create confusion, disputes, and unintended outcomes.

A will should not be viewed as a negative conversation, but as a practical step toward clarity, continuity, and family protection.

Many Silver ETFs are trading at a sharp premium to their indicative net asset value (iNAV) these days, highlighting strong buying pressure from investors.

Our founder, Saurabh Bansal, shared his perspective why this phenomenon happens in the market and what investors can do a about it.

“Over time, excess buying pressure usually fades and prices move back towards normal levels. However, investors should remain aware of liquidity conditions, the ease of trading in the underlying market, and the long-term behaviour of commodities compared with ETF prices,” Bansal added.

The iNAV is calculated using the current market price of silver and updates continuously during the trading day. The NAV, by contrast, is calculated at the end of each trading session

Our Founder & SEBI-registered Investment Advisor, Saurabh Bansal, shared his perspective on how this flexibility meaningfully enhances long-term wealth creation for minors.

With the option to choose ‘Active Choice’ and allocate fully to equities in the early years, parents can now truly maximise the power of compounding before gradually transitioning to more conservative allocations later in life.

He also highlighted how NPS Vatsalya now stands competitive with high-conviction mutual funds and PMS strategies, but with a significant structural edge:

* Expense ratios typically below 0.10%
* No capital gains tax during accumulation
* A potential 40–50 year compounding runway

This is more than an allocation tweak, it’s a structural upgrade to India’s retirement architecture led by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

PFRDA has allowed 100 per cent equity allocation in NPS Vatsalya, similar to the Multiple Scheme Framework (MSF) of the NPS. Further, to promote the scheme, it will permit CRAs to share subscribers’ information with the Pension Funds in accordance with the rules

We are pleased to share that Saurabh Bansal, Founder, Finatwork Investment Advisor, was recently featured in moneycontrol.com, sharing his perspective on how a weakening rupee is sharply increasing the cost of overseas education.

In the article, Saurabh highlights that when future goals are denominated in dollars, currency risk becomes a critical part of planning. He points out that parents with long-term goals, typically five years or more away, can mitigate this risk by gradually investing in dollar-denominated assets such as US ETFs or global equity mutual funds. Over time, this approach can act as a natural hedge against currency depreciation.

He also notes that gold funds, given India’s import dependence, tend to mirror dollar movements over longer periods. While gold carries price risk, it can still play a role within a broader, currency-aware strategy.

As global education costs rise, thoughtful planning that accounts for currency movements is becoming essential rather than optional.

Life after divorce is not just about healing the heart. It is also about healing your relationship with money.
We were glad to contribute because we have seen this journey up close with many women.

The fear. The confusion. And then slowly, the clarity.

When women start taking ownership of their finances, something shifts.
They take decisions with confidence.
They rebuild their identity.
They step into independence with both feet on the ground.

If this article helps someone begin that journey, that is what truly matters.
