*Why people should not stop their mediclaim policies*
A person recently told me he discontinued his mediclaim policy which he had been paying
premiums for 7 years and never made a claim.
His argument was, “What’s the point of keeping it when there’s been no claim for 7years?”
I understand his frustration. Paying premiums year after year without making a claim can feel
like a waste. But maybe that’s actually a good thing. It means life has been kind so far.
Insurance is one of those things you hope you never have to use. But if life takes a sudden
turn — an illness, an accident, a hospital bill that runs into tens of lakhs — that same policy can
become the best decision you ever made. I’ve seen families drain years of savings just to
pay hospital bills.
As we age, of all the insurance policies we hold, mediclaim is the one that matters most.
Health risks rise with time, and that’s exactly when medical insurance becomes valuable.
Many people think, “I’ll buy it later when I need it.” But insurance doesn’t work that way.
You CANNOT buy it after something happens — you buy it before, when you’re still healthy enough to
qualify and the costs are manageable.
So instead of seeing mediclaim as an “unused expense,” see it as your financial seatbelt.
You hope you’ll never need it, but if life takes a sharp turn, you’ll be grateful it was there to
protect you.
