Crores in VAT Refunds Still Trapped After 9 Years! 🚨📉

Even 111 months post-GST transition, thousands of businesses in Gujarat are facing severe working capital blockages due to pending VAT refunds.

🔍 The Key Issues:

• Portal Data Loss: Bank records vanished during GST migration, and closed legacy portals block online updates.

• Red Tape: Tax authorities demand physical affidavits and in-person visits for account re-verification.

• Audit Hurdles: Multi-layer approvals (claims over ₹25L & ₹50L) and piecemeal audit queries add 2–3 year delays per file.

A wake-up call for urgent administrative reform to release trapped liquidity for trade and industry!

Is Cash Still King in the UPI Era? 💵📲

Despite India's massive digital payment boom, physical cash is witnessing a notable resurgence. According to recent RBI data, Cash in Circulation (CIC) touched ₹42.89 Trillion by August-end—up 12.50% year-on-year!

From 10.70% of GDP in FY18, CIC has risen to 12.10% in FY26. While UPI continues double-digit growth, talks surrounding MDR charges on transactions above ₹2,000 are triggering concerns among merchants and retailers.

Could transaction fees tip the scales back to cash transactions, or will digital convenience prevail?

Will the RBI raise the repo rate this October? 📈

Following aggressive rate hikes by the US Fed, ECB, and the Bank of Japan, the Reserve Bank of India faces growing pressure. Shrinking yield differentials with global securities and domestic inflation concerns make an October repo rate hike a real possibility.

At the same time, strong foreign inflows have propelled banking system liquidity to a massive surplus of ₹9.85 lakh crore. Absorbing this excess via VRRR auctions remains difficult, as round-the-clock digital transactions make banks reluctant to lock funds into 30-day tenors.
