Design Thinking approach is key in consulting services

Design Thinking Approach is the key in consulting services in order to provide right solution on right time - catering to the real problems or pain areas of the customers.

Remember: Design thinking is purely built up on foundation of Iterations process.

Five Phases/Stages of design thinking Approach in consulting Services:

Empathy
This phase is critical as it is the starting stage for a perfect design thinking solution. This phase enables Consultant to discuss & drilldown to each pain points or challenges faced by clients. This stages emphases on understanding the business users pain areas by discussing with them & also focusing on implications of those pain areas.

Define
Second stage of design thinking is “Define”, in this phase consultant gathers all the collected information. Articulate the problems or business challenges faced by client because clearly articulated information’s is the only enabler for thinking on correct solutions for the pain areas. Involving the client in this stage for validating the articulated business challenges can help in refining the problem statements.

Ideate
Third stage is called as “Ideate”, where consultant needs to think on various solution options, bring new approach by thinking out of the box then brainstorm the ideas with colleague to drive the best possible solution in addressing the collected pain areas of the customers.

Prototype
This phase of design thinking is all about experimenting the ideas of the consultant, in this stage the proposed solution will go through multiple iterations resulting rejections, redesigning and Improved solutions.

Test
This phase of design thinking requires real problems to be tested, in this phase consultant might have to rethink from previous stages (Like Ideate or protype) in case the resolution is not completely catered to the actual pain area. This stage can expect some changes on previously decided solution proposals.

Is the post-implementation stabilization period reaching to end? Time to optimize now…

Start analyzing the unwanted processes mapped, obsolete customizations done, extra activities mapped, time-consuming processes etc…

Finalize:

Finalize the pain points by deciding the priority, select topmost pain areas for optimization, select the right team if internal or right partner if external expertise is required.

Execute:

Execute the decided steps for optimization like change in process, change in system setup, removal of unwanted customizations or modifications of customizations, skipping extra activities or automating the activities etc..

Optimize:

Start seeing the benefit of optimizations.
