🚨 3–6 MONTHS IS NOT ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE!
Your emergency fund should depend on how stable your income is — not just a generic rule.
💼 SALARIED EMPLOYEE
👉 Aim for around 3–6 months of essential expenses.
🏢 SELF-EMPLOYED / FREELANCER
👉 Consider 6–12 months, because income can fluctuate and business cash flow can suddenly slow down.
📌 Simple formula:
Emergency Fund = Essential Monthly Expenses × Required Months
💰 Example: If your essential expenses are ₹50,000/month:
👨💼 Salaried → ₹3,00,000 for 6 months
💼 Self-employed → ₹4,50,000 for 9 months
If you're self-employed, don't forget to separate:
🛡️ Personal Emergency Fund
🏢 Business Reserve
📑 Tax Reserve
🎯 The real question isn't:
“How much should everyone save?”
Ask yourself:
“If my income became ₹0 tomorrow, how long could I survive without borrowing or selling my investments?”
