The founders led by Paul Mungai Njehu included: Ikua Waweru Ezekiel Ngoci Kariuki, Peter Waweru Kuria, Stephen Ng’ang’a Ngugi, Joseph Ngigi Kinyanjui, Samuel Mbugua Kariuki, Peter Karanja Ng’ang’a, James Njau Mariga, John Gitau Mwaura and Peter Kariuki Njonjo. They came up with the name “LIMLAK” influenced by the fact that they hailed from Limuru, Lari and Kikuyu constituencies and the idea was to
first register members from the three constituencies. However, to remain competitive in the financial market, the Sacco now register members from all over the country. It was registered as Limlak Self Help Group in 2005 with the ministry of social services with a mission to promote thrift, prudent management, member participation, and regular education, development of dynamic systems that will ensure growth, security of funds and encourage a positive organizational culture. This is realized through continued enlistment of persons of common aspirations and helping them mobilize resources towards enhancing their economic base which helped the group to be transformed into Limlak Sacco Society in 2014. As a savings and credit society, LIMLAK is aimed at and continues to undertaking this by encouraging culture of savings among its members in which through borrowing, they improve their living standards
