From Graduation to Survival Jobs: My Journey as a Kenyan Youth

08/01/2026

When will the younger generation get the chance to lead?
His clinging to that seat is full of uncertainty.

06/01/2026

Kenya is a young nation.
More than half of our population is youth.
Yet too often, young people are spoken about—not spoken with.

Every election season, the youth suddenly matter.
We are called the future.
We are called the numbers.
We are reminded to vote.

But after elections, many young people return to the same reality:
looking for jobs that require years of experience they were never given the chance to gain,
carrying HELB loans before earning their first stable income,
being told to ā€œstart businessesā€ without access to capital or collateral.

When opportunities are limited, survival becomes the priority.
And instead of asking why the youth are struggling,
we often rush to judge how they respond to that struggle.

Youth representation in leadership remains minimal,
despite the youth being the majority of the population.
Even youth-focused institutions rarely reflect youth voices at decision-making levels.

This is not about blame.
It is about inclusion.
It is about accountability.
It is about listening.

Maybe the problem is not that young people are disengaged.
Maybe the system has not fully made room for them.

Is it time for the youth to step forward—not in anger,
but with responsibility, ideas, and vision—
to help shape a Kenya that works for everyone?

We are not just statistics.
We are stakeholders.

This is Sauti Ya Kizazi.

Just tell me what to refine next.

Employment shouldn’t cost the youth their dignity.

In Kenya, unemployment is real — but underemployment is the silent crisis.
Many young people are working, yet overworked, understaffed, and discouraged from speaking up. Burnout is normalized, dialogue is shut down, and when concerns are raised, youth are met with silence or humiliation instead of solutions.

This is not about entitlement.
It’s about fairness, safe workplaces, and systems that grow people — not drain them.

Oppression survives in silence. When the youth speak together, respectfully and truthfully, change becomes possible.

Speak with one voice, or suffer scattered.

Happy New Year from Sauti Ya Kizazi! šŸŽ‰

As we step into this new year, we carry the voices, dreams, and struggles of a generation that refuses to be silent.
To every young person pushing through unemployment, underemployment, and unanswered questions about tomorrow — we see you, we hear you, and we walk with you.

May this year bring opportunities where doors were closed, hope where patience was tested, and unity where division tried to win.
Let our voices grow louder, our purpose clearer, and our impact stronger.

Here’s to resilience, truth, and the power of the youth.
Happy New Year — the generation is awake.
