Ada is a customer service rep (non-exempt). When she works 45 hours a week, she earns 5 hours of overtime pay.
Ben is a finance manager (exempt). Even if he works 50 hours, he receives no extra pay beyond his salary.
Tolu designs a website for a company as a freelancer. She sets her hours, uses her own tools, and is paid per project—not on payroll. She's an independent contractor.
