Before you buy that drink today.... think like an investor.

Have you taken a bottle of Coca‑Cola today?
If yes, then you just helped the company make more money.

But here’s a question many people don’t ask themselves:
Why only be a customer when you can also be an owner?

Every day in Nigeria, millions of people buy products from companies like:
✅ Coca‑Cola Company
✅ Nestlé
✅ Dangote Cement
✅ MTN Group
✅ Nigerian Breweries.

We buy their drinks, food, cement, data, and many other products.
But most people don’t realize something important; These companies are owned by shareholders.

That means ordinary people can buy shares and become part-owners of the company.
What happens when you own shares?

When you invest in a company’s shares:
📈 If the company grows, the value of your shares can increase.

💰 Some companies also pay dividends — a portion of their profits shared with shareholders.

🏢 You become a part owner of the business.
For example, investors who bought shares in companies like MTN Nigeria or Dangote Cement years ago have earned dividends and capital appreciation over time.

Think about this for a moment...

Every day Nigerians spend money on:
✅ Soft drinks
✅ Internet data
✅ Seasoning cubes
✅ Cement
✅ Packaged food

These are businesses making money daily.
Instead of only spending money on these companies, you can also invest in them.

Don’t just be a consumer, also aim to be an investor.

Before investing though:
✅ Learn how the stock market works
✅ Study the company’s performance
✅ Understand risks and long-term investing
✅ Do proper market analysis
Investment is not gambling. It’s about knowledge, patience, and strategy.

The next time you drink a bottle of Coca-Cola, remember this:
You can either

keep buying the product…
Or
own part of the company that sells it.
The smartest people in the world do both.

Many people will scroll past this news.
But a few people will pause and read this carefully and quietly prepare.

Something potentially historic may be coming to the Nigerian stock market.
Dangote Refinery — the massive refinery built by Aliko Dangote — is preparing for a possible listing on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX).

"Let me explain what this means in very simple English."

It means ordinary Nigerians may soon be able to own shares in the refinery.
Yes... the same refinery that cost over $19 billion to build.

The same refinery that can process about 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest single-train refinery in Africa and one of the biggest in the world.

For years, Nigeria has spent billions of dollars importing fuel.
This refinery was built to change that.
If it performs as expected, it could:
• Reduce Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports
• Save the country huge foreign exchange
• Become one of the most valuable companies in Nigeria

Now here is the interesting part.
Reports suggest the company may release around 10% ownership to the public when it lists.
Meaning investors could buy shares and become part owners of the refinery.

Another detail that has caught investors’ attention is this:
Shares may be bought in naira, but dividends could potentially be earned in dollars.
In a country where the naira keeps losing value, that possibility alone will attract serious investors.

Before a company of this size sells shares to the public, it hires financial experts to structure the deal.

That is why firms like:
• Stanbic IBTC Capital
• First Capital
• Vetiva Capital

have reportedly been selected as financial advisors.
Their job is to help the company:
• Prepare financial records
• Determine valuation
• Structure the share offer
• Guide the listing process

In simple terms...
They are preparing the refinery for investors.
Now here is where it becomes interesting for everyday people.

When the refinery eventually lists on the stock exchange, any Nigerian with a brokerage account can buy shares.
That means you could technically own a small part of one of the most important energy projects in Africa.

But here is what smart investors understand.
Big opportunities reward those who prepare early.
Not those who arrive when social media hype has already started.
So what should smart people do now?

✅ Start building your cash reserve.
Big listings often attract massive demand.
If you wait until everyone is talking about it, the price may already be expensive.

✅ Make sure you have an active stock brokerage account.
Many people miss opportunities not because they lack money but because they are not operationally ready.

✅ When the company releases its prospectus, read it carefully.

Look at things like:
• Profitability
• Debt level
• Expansion plans
• Risks
Smart investors study before investing.

✅ Think long term.
Many people chase quick profit.
But most real wealth in the stock market comes from holding strong companies for many years.
And here is something many people don’t realize.
Large institutional investors - banks, pension funds, asset managers often position very early.

Retail investors usually come late and buy when the price is already high.
Don’t be that investor.
Stay informed.
Prepare early.
Move wisely.

Because in the world of investing...
Opportunities rarely come twice, but preparation creates them.

Now I’m curious 👇
If the refinery eventually lists on the stock market...
Would you invest in it?

YES or NO?

Tell me why in the comments.

And share this so more Nigerians can learn before the opportunity arrives. 📈

Most people think investment is only Crypto or Forex. And many people are scared of them.
They say: “It’s too risky.” “It’s too fast.” “It’s too technical.”
But what if I tell you…
There is a way to invest in real companies you already know and use every day?
Let’s talk about Stocks, Shares, and ETFs in the simplest way possible.

First - What Is a Stock?
A stock means you own a small part of a company.
Yes. It’s that simple.
Imagine your friend starts a business and says:
“Give me #100,000 and I’ll give you 10% of my company.”
If the business grows, your 10% becomes more valuable.
That is exactly what happens when you buy stock.
When people buy stock in Apple Inc., they are owning a small piece of the company that makes iPhones, Apple Laptop, apple watches etc.
When they buy stock in Coca-Cola Company, they own part of the company selling drinks worldwide.
You may not run the company.

But you own a piece of it. So What Are Shares?
Shares are just the pieces.
If a company is divided into 1 million pieces, each piece is called a share.

If you buy 20 pieces, you now own 20 shares.
Stock = Ownership
Shares = The number of pieces you own
Simple.

Now What Is an ETF?

An ETF is like buying many companies at once.
Instead of choosing only one company, you buy a basket of them.

For example, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust holds 500 big companies together.

So instead of betting everything on one company, your money is spread across many.

This reduces risk.
It’s like not putting all your eggs in one basket.
Why Should You Care?
Because wealthy people don’t just save money.

They invest in businesses.
When companies grow, investors grow with them.
Instead of only working for money, your money can start working for you.

But let me be clear:
Stocks are not magic. They can go up. They can go down.
That’s why understanding comes before investing.

If this makes sense to you, comment “PART 2”.

In the next post, I’ll explain:
• How people actually make money from stocks, shares and ETFs
• How to start even as a beginner
• Mistakes to avoid

If you found this helpful, please like and share and comment so others can learn too.
Let’s grow financially step by step. 📈
