What is everybody going to do with the $3.2 billion being distributed to Fonterra shareholders today? 🥛💰

It’s tax free and heading straight into shareholders’ hands, but if you’re thinking about moving it outside the shareholder structure, it’s important to plan how you do that

We’re seeing a real mix from clients. Some are paying down debt, others are investing in technology or putting money into opportunities off farm. And some are choosing to enjoy it by upgrading their lifestyle with holidays or family investments like a holiday home

If you want to chat about where to invest or what your next move should be, reach out and let’s see what we can make happen

A reminder for employers that the minimum wage is increasing from 1 April 2026

The adult minimum wage will rise to $23.95 per hour, an increase of 45 cents from the current $23.50 rate.

The training and starting out minimum wages will also increase to $19.16 per hour, remaining at 80% of the adult minimum wage and up from $18.80.

KiwiSaver is increasing from 1 April 2026 📅

The default contribution rate for both employers and employees will rise from 3% to 3.5%, helping boost long term savings for New Zealanders 💰

If you are contributing at the default rate (3%), your personal contribution will increase by 0.5%, which means a slight reduction in your take home pay. If you are on a total remuneration package, the increased employer contribution will be adjusted within your total pay, which may also affect your cash salary.

From 1 April, eligible 16 and 17 year old KiwiSaver members will also start receiving employer contributions.

If you would like support reviewing your cashflow ahead of these changes, or want to make sure the new KiwiSaver rates are implemented correctly in your payroll, make sure to reach out to your accountant.

Should I buy or lease a vehicle? 🚗

It's a great question and if you listen to lease companies they will always tell you to lease. But the reality is when you lease a vehicle you are paying someone else to own it and you are usually paying finance of more than 10%.

Sometimes leasing does make sense depending on your cashflow and how much you need the vehicle, but if you have a cashflow positive business then buying is often the better option. With some of the green loan options available from banks, there can be some very good interest rates out there.

Bottom line, make sure you think it through, maximise your cash and understand exactly what you are signing up for. If you want to know more give us a call 📞
