Most business owners don’t get a clear moment where they decide to step back and review everything.

It usually happens gradually, when pressure starts to build in cash flow, decision-making, or simply feeling like things aren’t as clear as they should be.

But often, the most useful point to step in is earlier than that.

When you still have space to adjust direction rather than react to pressure.

If you’re at that point where you want more clarity around where your business is heading, our Business Planning Sessions are built for exactly that kind of conversation.

🎀 Pink Ribbon Breakfast at DNA 🎀

What a morning! We had the most wonderful time hosting our Pink Ribbon Breakfast here at DNA, coming together to support the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation, a cause so close to so many of our hearts.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who joined us, donated, and showed up with such incredible generosity. 💕 The energy in the room was truly something special, and it's a reminder of just how powerful our community is when we come together for good.

The good news? It's not too late to donate! DNA will match every donation up to our target, so your contribution goes twice as far. 🙌

Every dollar counts. Every dollar is doubled. Let's keep going. 💗

Tomorrow, Thursday 21 May, our team will be coming together for a Pink Ribbon Morning Tea in support of breast cancer awareness and research.

Every year, we’re reminded of the friends, family, and colleagues whose lives have been touched by breast cancer — those fighting now, those who have overcome it, and those we hold in our hearts. Tomorrow is our chance to gather in pink, share food, and create space for stories that deserve to be heard.

There’s still time to support this important cause. All donations made through the link below will be matched by DNA until we reach our $2,500 goal, doubling the impact of every contribution.

Most business owners don’t struggle with ideas.

They usually have more than enough of those.

The challenge tends to be turning those ideas into something structured enough to actually move the business forward in a clear direction.

That’s where Business Planning Sessions sit.

It’s a chance to step back and really look at where the business is sitting financially, what’s creating pressure, and what needs to change over the next 12 to 24 months to support where you actually want it to go.

It’s less about theory, and more about clarity on what comes next.

A “business health check” isn’t just reviewing financial statements.

At a practical level, it’s stepping back and asking whether your business is still operating the way it was designed to, or whether it’s slowly drifted into something less efficient, more reactive, and harder to manage.

That includes:
• Margin strength - are you actually keeping enough of what you earn?
• Cash flow timing - does money arrive when you need it, or after pressure has already built?
• Operational pressure points - where is time, energy, or cost being lost without clear return?
• Alignment between effort and return - are the busiest parts of the business actually the most profitable?

Most issues don’t appear overnight.

They build slowly when these areas aren’t regularly reviewed, and by the time they’re obvious, they’re usually more expensive to fix.

A proper health check isn’t about finding problems.

It’s about understanding whether the structure you’re operating in still supports the business you’re trying to build.

Last week, we were proud to sponsor and attend an incredible Click event, an evening all about connection, learning, and growth.

Our team had the opportunity to network with local business owners, hear from Dean Payn on how AI is reshaping the future of business, and walk away with practical insights we can bring straight into our work.

At DNA, we believe growth doesn’t just happen in the office. Investing in our people, giving them space to connect, and exposing them to new ideas is how we continue to evolve as a team and as a business.

Big thanks to the organisers and everyone who made it such a valuable evening, we’re already looking forward to the next one.

A new tax year always brings a bit of a reset point for business owners.

It’s the moment most people start thinking about goals, growth… and what actually needs to change in the business to get there.

So here’s a question worth sitting with:

If you fast-forward to 2027, what do you want your business to look like, in real, practical terms?

Revenue is one thing. But so is structure, cash flow, and whether the business is actually working for you or just keeping you busy.

That’s what our Business Planning Sessions are designed to unpack, turning long-term goals into something that actually has structure behind it.

Wednesday morning tea just got a serious upgrade! 🍩🍊🧁

Donuts in every colour of the rainbow, fresh blueberry muffins, scones with whipped cream & jam, and a mountain of orange slices to balance it all out, because balance is very important. 😄

This is what thriving looks like at DNA. 💙 We work hard, and we snack harder.

Big love to whoever made this magic happen! 🙌

Want to spend less time in Xero and more time on your business? It’s time to stop manually searching for transactions. ✋

This month’s Power User Tip is all about the "Forward Slash" ( / ) shortcut.

Next time you’re on your Xero dashboard, just hit the / key on your keyboard. This instantly opens the global search bar, allowing you to:

🔍 Find an Invoice: Type the number or the client's name to jump straight to it.

👤 Locate a Contact: Search for a supplier without clicking through the contact menu.

📊 Jump to a Report: Type "Profit" or "Balance" to pull up your financials in seconds.

It seems small, but if you do this 20 times a day, you’re saving hours of clicking and scrolling every month.

Bonus Tip: While you’re in there, use the "C" key to quickly create a new contact or "I" for a new invoice.

Efficiency is the name of the game. Let us know in the comments: What’s your favourite Xero shortcut? 👇✨
