What does your Business Advisor actually do for you?
For a lot of Kiwi business owners, the honest answer is: file my returns and tell me what I owe at the end of the year.
And that's fine. Compliance is important. But if that's the full extent of the relationship, you're leaving a lot on the table.
Here's what a great Business Advisor should also be doing:
✅ Reviewing your margins and flagging where profit is quietly leaking
✅ Helping you understand your cashflow - not just your bank balance
✅ Talking through your structure and whether it's the right fit as you grow
✅ Giving you a view of the next 12 months, not just the last 12
✅ Being someone you can call when a big decision is on the table
The difference between a compliance accountant and a trusted advisor isn't about credentials. It's about the conversations you have - and how often you have them.
At Monteck Carter, we believe every NZ business owner deserves both.
