This week, we're celebrating Samoan Language Week, Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa.

Gagana Samoa is one of the oldest living languages in the Pacific, and here in Aotearoa New Zealand, it is one of the most widely spoken. It carries stories, values, and a deep sense of identity that connects Samoan communities across the Pacific and around the world.

Pacific Language Weeks are a dedicated time to honour the rich and diverse languages of the Pacific, distinct from and alongside the languages and culture of Maori, the tangata whenua of Aotearoa. Each week is a chance to listen, learn, and show genuine respect for the communities that make up the fabric of our nation.

At WE Accounting, we are proud to stand alongside our Pacific communities and celebrate the languages that shape who we are.

Fa'afetai tele lava, thank you for being part of our community

Building wealth isn’t about having a huge amount of money upfront. It’s about starting early, staying consistent, and giving your money time to grow.

Small steps today can create opportunities your future self will thank you for.

Save this as a reminder to start where you are.

Tax season is over. You filed. You survived. Maybe you even cried a little.

But here's what most business owners don't do after tax season and it's costing them every year.

Here are 3 money habits to start TODAY so next year feels like nothing:
1. Set up a tax savings account - Put 20 - 25% of every payment aside. Every. Single. Time.
2. Reconcile your accounts monthly - 30 minutes a month saves 30 hours of stress.
3. Book a mid-year check-in - Most people only talk to their accountant at tax time.

That's like only going to the doctor when you're already sick.

The businesses that thrive don't just survive tax season they use it as a reset.

Practicing these habits will help you in the long run.

Fa’afetai to everyone who shared, celebrated, and kept the Rotuman language alive throughout the last week. Language is more than words. It carries identity, history, and connection across generations.

The WE team is now looking forward to celebrating Samoan Language Week next. Fa’afetai tele lava!

Subscription creep is real. A free plan here, a freemium upgrade there and before you know it, your business is bleeding hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars a year on tools that overlap, underdeliver, or quietly switched to paid.

Before your next renewal, ask yourself:
→ Do I actually use this tool?
→ Is there a cheaper or free alternative?
→ Am I paying for seats I don't need?

Now, this might seem obvious but these are exactly the kinds of things that slip through the cracks when you're busy running a business. Stay vigilant, run your business smart.

Every registered charity in New Zealand has a legal deadline coming up and most don't know about it.

Under the Charities Amendment Act 2023, your trust must formally review its governance procedures by 5 October 2026.

That means going back through your:
• Trust deed or constitution
• Financial management policies
• Conflict of interest policies
• Any rules that govern how your trust makes decisions

The question isn't just "do these documents exist." It's are they still fit for purpose?
If your trust deed hasn't been touched in years, this is your legal prompt to fix that. After October 2026, this review must happen every three years.

Miss it, and you're non-compliant with Charities Services.

We help charitable trusts, Māori/ Pasifika trusts, whānau entities and community organisations across Aotearoa get this right. If you're not sure where to start, get in touch with us via our website: www.weaccounting.co.nz

Having one big client is a vulnerability most pakihi Māori/Pasifika don't see until it's too late.

If these hits close to home, let's kōrero.

We help Māori, Pacific, and whānau businesses across Aotearoa build the kind of financial foundation that doesn't collapse when one thing goes wrong.

Tū Māia. Stand strong. Build smart.
