Can cost-saving measures in the business truly be a key driver of profits?

Yes, if it’s done properly.

Improving profitability is about increasing revenue AND managing costs:

🔹 Lower variable costs → improved margins on every sale
🔹 Reducing overheads → increased bottom line

The key is knowing what to cut, what to keep, and where it impacts performance.

If you’re reviewing costs or feeling pressure on margins, it’s worth getting clear on where the opportunities are. Need support? Get in touch on 03 343 4448.

The end of the financial year is close. To ensure we get the best result for your business, now is the perfect time to review two key areas:

🔹 Asset Register: Have you sold or scrapped any equipment lately? Let us know so we can update your depreciation schedule.

🔹 Bad Debts: Take a look at your aged receivables. If there are invoices you know won't be paid, they must be physically written off in your system before 31 March to claim a deduction.

Getting these bits sorted now makes for a much smoother tax season later. If you have any questions about how to handle these in your software, just let us know.

04/03/2026

From 1 April 2026, the default KiwiSaver contribution rate for both employees and employers will increase from 3.0% to 3.5%.

A further increase to 4% is scheduled for 1 April 2028.

What this means for employers:

🔹 Update default employer and employee KiwiSaver rates to 3.5%
🔹 Ensure your payroll system is updated before the first pay run on or after 1 April 2026

Employees may also apply to Inland Revenue for temporary contribution rate reductions, which must be managed individually within payroll systems.

If you need support navigating these changes, please contact your usual Kendons advisor or call 03 343 4448.
