Our Strategic Plan
The strategic plan of Ngā Kaitatau Māori o Aotearoa is closely linked with the services provided to members. Below you will find an outline of the strategies adopted by Ngā Kaitatau Māori o Aotearoa to fulfill it goals:

Members

- Develop and maintain a national support network for members through the regional bodies, where established
- Develop a diverse membership base
- Encourage regional bodies to grow and develop
- Organise a national hui-a-tau
- Coordinate PD sessions of national interest for members through regional bodies, where appropriate
- Promote the use of te reo Maori me nga tikanga Maori

Maori in Accounting

- Promote, enourage and support Maori into the profession
- Promote the advancement of Maori within the profession
- Promote academic and professional excellence such as prizes, scholarships and competition participation
- Lobby and advocate for Maori interests in the profession
- Educate the profession on relevant aspects of Maori culture
- Encourage research into Maori accounting and business related topics

Maori Economic Development

- Build the business and financial capabilities of Maori organisations
- Promote and increase members involvement in Maori economic organisations and initiatives
- Establish pathways for the growth of Maori economic leaders

- Develop and maintain a strong and positive relationship with:

Internal Operations

- Market our organisation to key stakeholders
- Identify and secure revenue systems

Applications are now open for two Māori accounting scholarships supporting tauira Māori in their second year or beyond of a tertiary accounting qualification:

💰 Ngā Raumanako Māori Scholarship — $5,000, with potential internship opportunities.

💰 Suzanne Spencer Memorial Māori Scholarship — $6,000, plus mentoring to support your career aspirations.

If you’re studying accounting and passionate about contributing to the economic, financial and holistic wellbeing of Māori, this could be your opportunity to take the next step.

Congratulations to our Chief Financial Officer, Joe Hanita, on being named the 2026 recipient of the Hikatoa! Trailblazer Award.

Presented by Te Puna Tahua Toa, the Hikatoa! Trailblazer Award recognises individuals who keep the fires of leadership burning across generations through an unwavering commitment to advancing Māori prosperity, sovereignty and cultural vitality. Inspired by the whakataukī "Ko te ahikā te mana o te whenua," the award celebrates leaders who bring a Te Ao Māori worldview to modern business and finance.

Joe joins an esteemed group of previous recipients including Sir Hēnare Ngata KBE, Professor Whatarangi Winiata and Hinerangi Raumati Tu'ua MNZM FCA, reflecting the significance of this recognition and the calibre of leadership it honours.

Joe's career has spanned more than two decades of financial leadership across Māori organisations, where he has consistently combined commercial excellence with a deep commitment to kaupapa Māori. His leadership, integrity and dedication to creating enduring outcomes for iwi and future generations make him a worthy recipient of this prestigious honour.
