โ€œOh, I never got your invoice!โ€

Interesting... because Xero says the online invoice was VIEWED. ๐Ÿ‘€

Now, that doesn't prove your client read it, but it does make things a wee bit awkward.

Because you've got a business to run, not a charity to fund.

Simple tweaks in Xero can drastically speed up the time it takes for you to get paid!

Opened a new bank account and forgot to tell your accountant?
Cute.

We've just spent 3 hours playing CSI: Xero trying to find money we didn't know existed.

And then you wonder why your accounting bill went up.

Being bloody good at your job doesn't automatically mean you're good at running a business.

And unfortunately, "she'll be right" isn't a legit business strategy.

Part One

Sh*t in Xero you should probably know how to do.

Watch, save, share with your biz bestie and try yourself.

Knowing your numbers means ACTUALLY opening up Xero and looking at them.

๐Ÿ– up below if you are giving this a go next time you log into Xero.

Having an accountant does not mean you get to unsubscribe from your tax responsibilities

Weโ€™ll calculate it.

Tell you what to pay.

Tell you when itโ€™s due.

Send you the details.

Remind you.

Possibly remind you again.

But at some point, someone still has to actually press ๐—ฃ๐—”๐—ฌ.

And hereโ€™s the other slightly uncomfortable bit...

If you want a super high-touch service where someone is constantly checking, chasing, reminding and following up with you personally?

That takes time.

And time costs money.

You canโ€™t really have ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ + ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ต + ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜†๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด.

Iโ€™ve got a business to run too.

And I know my numbers

So yes, know what youโ€™re paying your accountant for.

Know what THEY are responsible for.

Know what YOU are responsible for.

And if you canโ€™t pay your tax?

Tell us. We can absolutely help with that.

But if you simply forgot to press pay?

Yeah... that one might be on you

New month = Monthly Money Process.

Takes 60.mins MAX and is how you start to learn and read the numbers in your biz.

Avoidance is never a good money or biz strategy...

YES. You might actually be able to claim part of your Fiji trip. ๐ŸŒด

Now before everyone books flights and starts calling their poolside marg โ€œmarket researchโ€...

There are rules. Obviously.

If youโ€™re genuinely traveling for business, some of those costs may be deductible.

But the key word here is genuinely.

Meeting clients? Yep.

Attending a conference? Sure.

Scoping venues for an actual retreat youโ€™re planning? Potentially.

Lying beside the pool for four days because you opened your laptop once and replied to an email?

Ummmmโ€ฆโ€ฆ

The important bit is separating the business part from the holiday part and keeping records to back it up.

Because adding one supplier meeting to your itinerary does not magically make your entire tropical getaway tax deductible.

BUT...

Adding a couple of holiday days to a legitimate business trip doesnโ€™t automatically make the whole thing unclaimable either.

And thatโ€™s where knowing the rules gets rather handy.

So before you decide IRD is shouting the cocktails...and reducing your next GST bill.
Ask your accountant.

Preferably before you book the swim-up bar. ๐Ÿน

And save this for the next time someone tells you โ€œyou canโ€™t claim overseas travel.โ€
Because sometimes you actually can.

Nails.

Glasses

Getting your hair done

Buying clothes

For "business use" won't cut it with the IRD.

Just because you are filming, hosting an event, or presenting does NOT mean you can go have a spa day and claim a chunk of it for tax & GST.

To be able to claim clothes as a business expense they must have logos on them and be for work use ONLY!

Nails - โŒ๏ธ
Hair - โŒ๏ธ
Glasses - โŒ๏ธ
All deemed personal expenses.

Sorry not sorry.....
