Can't see the wood for the trees?
Running a business rarely goes to plan. A large sale falls through, key staff are unexpectedly unavailable, or a shift in the weather disrupts an otherwise well-organised quarter. Firefighting can start to feel like business as usual, with attention drawn to whatever issue is loudest that week.
This is a pattern we see often with clients, and one of the most effective ways we help interrupt it is the Magic Wand technique. Rather than starting with "what went wrong this month/quarter/year", we ask: "if you had a magic wand, what would you change about your business?" Nothing is off the table — finance, staffing, time.
The value of this exercise is in what it reveals: your genuine priorities, rather than the noise of day-to-day operations. It's a shift from reacting to circumstances to leading with purpose.
Uncertainty doesn't disappear, and unexpected challenges will still arise. But with a clear sense of what matters most, we typically find that by our next conversation, real progress is being made towards the business our clients set out to build.
P.S. If firefighting has become the norm in your business, it may be worth asking yourself that same question. Get in touch — we're happy to help you find the answer.
