Has your ACC invoice arrived?

ACC invoices are starting to land, so now is a good time to have a quick check that the details ACC holds for you are correct.

A couple of things worth checking on your invoice are:

▶Your employment status, particularly whether you are recorded as working full-time or part-time (less than 30 hours per week).

▶Your industry classification. Make sure the industry/business activity ACC has listed actually reflects the work you do, as this can affect the levy rate used.

If something doesn’t look right, or you’re simply not sure what you’re looking at, feel free to email us a copy of your ACC invoice.

We’re happy to have a quick look over it and let you know if there is anything that may need updating with ACC.

GST Return Due Soon

A reminder that GST returns and payments for the period ending 30 September are due to Inland Revenue by 28 October.

If you're not set up on Xero and we've emailed you asking for your transactions, please send them through as soon as you can so we have plenty of time to prepare your return.

Make tax time a little less painful!

One of the best habits you can get into as a business owner is having a separate Tax Savings Account.

As money comes into your business, regularly put around 25–30% of your income aside for tax.

That way, when your Income Tax or Provisional Tax payments fall due, the money is already sitting there waiting — rather than having to find a large lump sum at the last minute.

It also helps you get a much clearer picture of how much money is actually available to spend in your business.

A little bit put aside regularly can make those tax due dates much easier!

A quick reminder about entertainment expenses!

Taking a client out for lunch?
Hosting a team dinner?
Catching up with a customer over a meal?

In most cases, only 50% of entertainment expenses are tax deductible in NZ.

There are some exceptions — for example, certain work functions held at your business premises can be 100% deductible.

Quick tip: Keep your receipts and make a note of who attended and the business reason for the expense. It makes things much easier when it comes time to do your accounts!
