Running an Airbnb and thinking about GST registration? 🏚

A recent Inland Revenue statement has clarified that no GST can be claimed for goods and services costing $10,000 or less (excluding GST) purchased before GST registration and later used in a taxable activity 💰

This may apply if you've recently started hosting and purchased items such as furniture, linen, kitchenware, cleaning supplies, software or undertook renovations before becoming GST registered 🛌

The rules can be complex, so it's important to understand what GST you may be able to claim and what records you'll need to keep 📚

Residential care subsidy changes are now in effect from 1 July 2026 📢

The asset threshold for a single person has increased to $300,811, while gifting limits have risen to $8,500 per year. Income-from-assets limits have also been updated.
