Murphy & Landrigan

Murphy & Landrigan We offer expertise in tax planning, business structure, financial analysis, and strategic advisory.

Our collective team knowledge caters to diverse financial needs, ensuring we are able to support businesses and individuals at every stage. In 1964, John Murphy left his position with the Inland Revenue to form a sole practitioner public practice accounting firm. In 1969, son-in-law Kevin Landrigan began working for John, and in 1973, Kevin joined John in partnership, forming Murphy and Landrigan.

John and Kevin practiced together from their Young Street premises through until John’s retirement in 1995. Since then Kevin has continued to lead the firm as Senior Principal through its various evolutions. In late 2014 Patrick Landrigan joined his father Kevin at BDO.

1 January 2021 see’s the practice Murphy and Landrigan re-emerge, with Patrick Landrigan to lead the Murphy and Landrigan practice as a principal, with Kevin’s full support.

M&L are stoked to welcome a familiar face this month welcoming Emma Brien to our team.

Emma is a Chartered Accountant and Xero certified advisor with more than 2 decades experience in public practice accounting in Taranaki. Born and raised in Taranaki, Emma joined M&L in 2026 after 24 years with BDO Taranaki (including 2 years sitting right next to and training Patrick Landrigan! - she clearly did a good job).

Emma looks after a broad range of clients, both Agri and Commercial, and in addition has strong expertise with Working for Families entitlements and calculations.

Emma also has a strong interest in growing indoor plants - and has quickly taken ownership of the M&L office plant collection (which apparently needs a bigger budget!). Outside of work Emma is an 'ultimate rocker' with partner Ash, and loves heading along to heavy metal rock concerts all over New Zealand.

Welcome Emma!

We've had three new team members join us this week at M&L - and we are now a team of 24!! The second of these is Jennie Wong Too

Jennie is an experienced bookkeeper and accounts administrator with more than a two decades of experience, and joined M&L in early 2026 in a joint tax administrator/team support role. In her varied career – she is also a trained early childhood carer (no jokes allowed about comparing the M&L office to an early child care centre!)

Jennie was born in Dunedin, and grew up Wellington, and outside of work Jennie is mum to 3 busy teenagers and is married to Andrew – a policeman! Jennie also loves a good coffee and has already made herself at home at the M&L office coffee machine!

Great feature in today's Taranaki Daily News on the Mawson family from Egmont Seafoods Ltd - an intergenerational family business we have proudly supported (also intergenerationally) for their 40 years in business. We look forward to another 40 years working together!

Nearly 40 years after Keith Mawson launched his business, he is gradually passing the baton onto his son Caleb creating a rare father-son pairing in Taranaki’s fishing sector.

The M&L team wish you a happy and healthy Christmas and holiday period ahead.

We thank you for your continued support throughout 2025. We all survived 25!

While we at M&L do not have an official close down over the holiday period, many of our team are taking a well deserved break, so if you need support over the Christmas/New Year break – you are welcome to email [email protected] or contact any of the M&L Directors.

For those who are Taranaki-based – we hope you attend the annual ‘Christmas at the Bowl’ this Sunday, 21 December, which we are proudly sponsoring and supporting. This annual gold-coin entry event at the Bowl of Brooklands coincides with the start of the TSB Festival of the Lights at Pukekura Park.

M&L are stoked to welcome Jane Gadsby to our team this week.

Jane is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Xero Certified advisor with more than 40 years' experience in public practice accounting in Taranaki. Jane joined Murphy & Landrigan in 2025 after 25 years with BDO Taranaki, where one of her many hats included training both Matt Landrigan and Patrick Landrigan! (She clearly did a good job!). Jane's sense of humour and pragmatic and practical outlook are a welcome addition to the M&L team.

Having worked with a wide variety of clients in both the commercial and agricultural sectors, Jane demonstrates extensive knowledge in both accounting and business. Jane is also a local business owner, and, along with her husband Ross they own and operate Jane's Gallery (where Picture framing is an Art!).

Outside of work Jane has equally as busy social life, having been involved with New Plymouth Squash club for many years, being Treasurer and an active member of Box Office Boxing, a volunteer front of house team member at the TSB Showplace, a volunteer with Sport Taranaki and she is currently training for (another) quarter Ironman.

Welcome to the team Jane!
