Financial policies are an important part of good financial management, but once they're in place, they can be easy to leave sitting in the background.

Over time, however, processes change, responsibilities shift and the way your school manages its finances can evolve. That's why it's worth reviewing your financial policies regularly to make sure they still reflect how things actually work.

A review is a good opportunity to check that:
• Responsibilities and approval levels are clear
• Purchasing and payment processes are still appropriate
• Delegated authorities are up to date
• Controls around school funds and expenditure remain effective
• Policies reflect current practices and requirements

It's also worth checking that the people involved in your school's financial processes understand the policies that apply to their role.

Good financial policies shouldn't just be documents kept on file. They should provide clear, practical guidance that supports consistent financial decision-making across your school.

When did your school last take a look at yours?

🎉 ICP 2026 is just around the corner!

In just a few days, principals and education leaders from across New Zealand, Australia and beyond will come together in Auckland for the NZPF-hosted International Confederation of Principals’ Convention (ICP) 2026, and we can’t wait to be part of it.

With inspiring speakers, valuable learning opportunities and the chance to share ideas with fellow education leaders, ICP 2026 is set to be a fantastic few days of connection, collaboration and conversation.

📍 Find us at Booth 86

Our Director, Ben Duflou, and BAS Manager, Dominique McCrostie, will be there throughout the convention and would love for you to stop by and say hello.

Come by for a chat, pick up some practical school finance resources, grab some AFS goodies (including our new bucket hats!) and, of course, treat yourself to some of our fan-favourite mint choccies! 🍫

We’ll see you in Auckland from 16-18 September!

Monthly finance reports provide much more than a snapshot of your school’s financial position. When used effectively, they can help school leaders and boards understand how the school is tracking, identify emerging trends and make more informed decisions throughout the year.

But the real value comes from knowing what to look for and how to use the information in front of you.

In our latest blog, we share some practical ways to get more value from your monthly finance reports and better understand the story behind the numbers.
