From all of us at Rural Chartered Accountants, we hope you get a good break this long weekend.

Whether you're out on the farm, getting stuck into a few jobs at home, or finally putting your feet up with family and friends, we hope you get some time to recharge. If you're travelling, take care on the roads.

We'll be back on deck on Tuesday. If anything's on your mind for your business, give us a call on 07 308 5015 and we'll happily talk it through.

Do you know where your business really stands?

Your annual accounts hold a lot more than a tax bill. They show what worked this year, where the money went, and what could be doing more for you.

If you're already a client, we'd love to book a time to go through your annual accounts with you. It's a chance to talk about the year that's been, ask the questions you haven't had time to ask, and look at what's next.

If you're not a client yet, we offer a complimentary business review meeting. We'll sit down with you, look at where you are now, and work out a plan for improving your financial position.

Either way, the aim is the same: clarity on your numbers and peace of mind about what comes next.

Give us a call on 07 308 5015 any time, or get in touch through www.ruralca.nz/contact-us and we'll find a time that suits.

When two families come together, sorting out what happens to the wealth you've built isn't always straightforward.

In our latest case study, we share the journey of a family who assumed things would probably work themselves out, until more deliberate questions came up in one of our annual review meetings.

What did they actually want for the future? How would the wealth be protected if a child separated, remarried or passed away? Would the next generation understand both the privilege and the responsibility of inheriting family wealth?

Getting the answers meant looking closely at ownership structures, setting up clearer financial reporting, and having some honest conversations about expectations.

The result: a family with far more clarity today, and a much better chance the wealth they've built will be protected, grown and passed on well into the future.

Heads up for anyone in horticulture: IRD is paying closer attention to labour supply arrangements, schedular payments and cash payments this year. Our clients are covered, but if you're unsure or know someone who might need a hand, get in touch.

We all do it. Tell ourselves a story that isn't true, then let it call the shots.

In this week's blog, our director Shannon Harnett shares what happened when she pushed past her own reluctance and went along to a school reunion — and what the drive home taught her about the excuses we make in business.

"I can't afford to take time off." "No one else can do it properly." "Things will settle down after this season." We hear versions of these often, especially when it comes to succession planning or finally sitting down with the numbers.

Have a read, and if one of those stories sounds a bit too familiar, give us a call any time. We're always happy to talk it through: https://www.ruralca.nz/news/eating-elephant-stories-we-tell-ourselves

You don't need to be an expert in everything. But you do need to understand enough to take part confidently in the decisions that shape your future. That was the big takeaway from Life Admin: The Stuff You Should Know, our evening with Craigs Investment Partners Women's Wealth and Apogee Legal earlier this month.

When was the last time you sat down for a proper annual accounts review?

It's easy to let this slip when business is ticking along fine. But a good annual accounts review is about far more than getting your numbers filed. It's a chance to find tax savings and opportunities you might otherwise miss, get a clear picture of your cash flow rather than just your profit, and check that your business structure is still set up to protect you now and in the future.

If it's been a while since your last review, we'd love to help. Give us a call any time, or book a complimentary meeting with one of our team to see what we can uncover for your business.

What a fantastic evening.

Earlier this month we joined Craigs Investment Partners Women's Wealth and Apogee Legal for Life Admin: The Stuff You Should Know — an evening built around the financial, legal and investment decisions that matter most, but often get pushed down the list when life is busy.

We covered everything from understanding your financial position and investing, through to relationships and separation, trusts, succession, ageing parents, estate planning and preparing for retirement.

One theme came through clearly: you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you do need to understand enough to take part confidently in the decisions that shape your financial future. That means knowing what you own, what you owe, how things are structured, and having the right people around you when things get more complex.

Thank you to Craigs Women's Wealth for pulling the evening together, to Apogee Legal for hosting, and to everyone who came along and joined the discussion. We'd love to do more of these.
