“Jion, hindi ko kailangan ng life insurance.”
That’s what my friend told me over coffee.
He’s a breadwinner.
Pays the bills. Supports his parents. Helps his siblings. The type of person everyone depends on… but no one really checks on.
So I asked him one question.
“Kapag nawala ka tomorrow, gaano katagal bago nila maramdaman financially ang pagkawala mo”
Biglang natahimik at napaisip.
Because the truth is…
Most breadwinners think life insurance is only for them.
It’s not.
It’s also for the people who will be left picking up the pieces if something happens to them.
I told him:
You insure your car because it can get damaged.
You insure your phone because it can break.
Pero yung taong bumubuhay sa buong pamilya… walang protection?
That hit him hard.
Then we computed everything:
Monthly expenses.
Amortization.
Tuition.
Medicines.
Parents’ support.
And for the first time, he realized this wasn’t just about “death or critical illness.”
It was about making sure his family won’t have to start from zero if life suddenly changes.
A few weeks later, he got insured.
Not because he was scared.
But because he finally understood that being a responsible provider also means preparing for the unexpected.
Breadwinners carry everyone.
But who carries the family when the breadwinner can no longer do it?
That’s what life insurance is for.
