An Open Letter to Our Government
To our leaders and public servants,
We, the middle class, continue to carry our share—quietly, consistently, and faithfully. We work hard, we build businesses, we support our families, and we fulfill our duty by paying our taxes on time. We do not complain about contributing; in fact, we understand that taxes are essential to nation-building and the well-being of our country.
But it is difficult not to feel disheartened.
Despite the weight of our contributions, many of us struggle to see the impact reflected in our daily lives. Public services remain lacking, systems feel inefficient, and opportunities for meaningful support seem limited. We are not asking for special treatment—only for fairness, accountability, and visible progress.
What pains us most is the perception—and often, the evidence—that public funds are not always handled with the integrity they deserve. To see resources, which come from the sacrifices of ordinary citizens, being misused or squandered for personal gain is deeply discouraging. It erodes trust and weakens the very foundation of public service.
We do not expect perfection. But we do expect honesty.
We hope—sincerely—that those entrusted with leadership remember the responsibility they carry. That every peso collected represents hard work, long hours, and the aspirations of millions. That governance is not a privilege, but a duty to serve with transparency, humility, and integrity.
We will continue to do our part. We only ask that you do yours—with the same commitment, sincerity, and respect for the people you serve.
For the country we all believe in,
The Filipino Middle Class
“Nagpapakapagod ka magtrabaho para magbayad ng tax,
tapos yung hindi nagpapakapagod ang may nakukuha.”
Mabigat pakinggan.
Pero kung iisipin mo…
maraming nakakaramdam nito.
Kasi ikaw…
gumigising araw-araw.
Nagtatrabaho.
Kumikita.
Nagbabayad.
Pagod ka na…
pero tuloy pa rin.
Tapos may mga pagkakataon
na may makikita ka.
May natatanggap na tulong.
May nakikinabang sa system.
At mapapaisip ka:
“Pantay ba talaga?”
Kung ganito yung nasa isip mo…
naiintindihan kita.
Kasi hindi mo naman hinihingi yung sobra.
Gusto mo lang maramdaman
na may saysay yung effort mo.
Na may balik.
Pero eto yung mahalagang makita natin.
Ang system…
hindi pareho ang basehan para sa lahat.
Yung tax, kinokolekta
para pondohan ang iba’t ibang programa.
Yung tulong, ibinibigay
base sa criteria at sitwasyon.
Kaya may mga taong mas ramdam ang benepisyo
at may mga taong hindi agad.
At dito nagkakaroon ng gap.
Yung expectation…
at yung actual na nakikita mo.
Kaya kahit may paliwanag…
yung kinikita mo.
Kasi kapag may mali sa proseso…
ikaw din ang unang maaapektuhan.
Penalty.
Delay.
Dagdag gastos.
