I Passed Another Phase 2 Specialization of the SEC Certification Examination. 🎓
Certified Fixed Income Market Salesman (FIMS®)
The Exam was conducted on-site at the SEC HQ, through their system, SEC ACES Portal.
Last year, when I took the Certified Investment Solicitor (CIS®) Examination, it took me multiple tries due to the lack of reviewers.
Ngayon, same pa rin! Only the coverage for the FIMS Examination was provided, but no official reviewer or study materials were given to prepare for the exam. The coverage included Laws, Rules and Regulations I (Regulation of Securities Market Professionals), Laws, Rules and Regulations III (Securities Borrowing and Lending (SBL) and OTC Rules), Dealing with the Investing Public I (Rules on Business Conduct and Ethical Standard Practices), Dealing with the Investing Public II (Fraud and Manipulation), Selected OTC Rules, BSP Circular 392, BSP Circular 528, BIR Revenue Regulations, PDEx Rules, Qualified Buyer Rules, and Sales Practices and Rules (Prompt Ex*****on Rule, Suitability Rule, and Best Ex*****on Rule).
Same last year, I read around 500–1,000 pages of laws, rules, and regulations, including their Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), as well as relevant Memorandum Circulars and Letters. I spent my days studying, understanding, and memorizing the concepts, principles, and specific provisions related to these topics.
The real challenge for me is really the coverage and the specifics because I never know what exact questions will appear in the exam. In fact, one key coverage alone can already be more than 100 pages of study material, excluding the IRR. Napakalawak ng sakop ng coverage dahil sa dami ng readings, concepts, principles, and regulations na kailangang intindihin at tandaan. Technical knowledge is also needed in the fundamentals of economics, trading, accounting, capital markets, investment companies, and financial institutions.
The SEC Certification Examinations, based on my own personal experience, are heavily focused on the laws, rules, and regulations governing the Philippine capital markets through securities laws and other important laws related to banking, finance, and investments.
I really put my time, effort, and dedication into learning, preparing for, and passing the certifications and licenses that I pursue as a 22-year-old aspiring finance professional.
I now understand the significance of all these guided principles, concepts, the laws, rules and regulations to protect financial consumers, to promote efficiency, and to maintain the integrity of the Philippine Capital Market.
Ngayon, isa na akong SEC-Certified Capital Market Professional, Certified Investment Solicitor (CIS®), at Certified Fixed Income Market Salesman (FIMS®).
Maraming Salamat po sa inyong Pag-Suporta! 🙏🏻
