The Supreme Court just gave depositors a major win: 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

Here's what happened: A depositor withdrew ₱76,000 after her bank credited a check too early. The bank later demanded the money back and the SC said no.

🚨 Proposal alert: The House Ways and Means Committee is pushing to raise the tax-exempt ceiling on 13th month pay and other bonuses from ₱90,000 to ₱120,000 alongside a separate push to raise the general income tax exemption threshold.

What we know so far:

✅Still a proposal not yet law
✅Committee chair Rep. Miro Quimbo is targeting passage as early as August 2026
✅Earliest possible implementation: January 2027
✅Tied to the broader push (from PBGM's SONA call and House Bill 10345) to raise the income tax exemption from ₱250,000 to ₱350,000

Nothing to file yet, but worth watching if you run payroll. We'll keep you posted as this moves through Congress.

Update for NCR employers: the ₱85 daily wage hike is on hold for now.

A Pasig court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on July 30, halting the implementation of NCR Wage Order No. 27. This affects the ₱60 first tranche that had already taken effect July 25 (raising the minimum wage from ₱695 to ₱755).

What this means for your payroll right now:

✅Minimum wage reverts to ₱695/day while the TRO is in effect
✅The TRO runs until August 13, 2026
✅A court hearing on August 3 could change things again

📌 Our advice: hold off on permanent payroll adjustments and watch this space: we'll flag any updates as soon as they land.
