So… I turned 40 last year.
At this age, hindi na tayo masyadong excited sa birthday gifts.
Mas exciting kapag:
✔️ walang utang
✔️ may ipon
✔️ kumpleto ang tulog
✔️ wala pang maintenance meds 😅
But seriously, turning 40 made me realize that financial planning isn’t about becoming rich. It’s about making sure life doesn’t fall apart when unexpected things happen.
Here’s my “Before 40 Financial Checklist” to help out my fellow millenials:
✅ BUILD AN EMERGENCY FUND
Kung mawalan ka ng income today, gaano katagal mong masu-support ang pamilya mo nang hindi nangungutang o nagwo-worry sa bills? Financial experts recommend having 3–6 months of living expenses set aside in an emergency fund.
✅ GET A LIFE INSURANCE
Imagine your family waking up tomorrow without your income. Protect the people who depend on you. “Bahala na sila” is not a financial plan.
✅ HEALTH PROTECTION
One hospital stay can wipe out years of savings. That’s why it’s important to get health insurance or HMO coverage, consider critical illness protection for major illnesses, and maintain a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and exercise. A health crisis shouldn’t become a financial crisis too.
✅ INVESTMENTS
Your money shouldn’t just sit in the bank. Even small amounts invested consistently can grow over time. You don’t need to be rich to invest. You just need to start.
✅ PLAN FOR YOUR RETIREMENT
One day your back will hurt, your knees will crack, and your boss will be younger than you. 😅 Start preparing now, especially if ayaw mong maging retirement plan ang mga anak mo.
✅ CHILDREN’S EDUCATION FUND
Tuition fees grow almost as fast as kids do. Start early.
✅ DEBT UNDER CONTROL
Debt isn’t always bad. Used wisely, it can help you buy a home, start a business, or invest in your future. But if your paycheck disappears the moment it arrives, it’s time to reassess.
✅ CLEAR FINANCIAL GOALS
Your dream house? A business? More travel? Retirement? You can’t hit a target you haven’t set. Money works best when it has a purpose. The clearer your goal, the easier it is to create a plan to get there.

Turning 40 taught me that financial freedom isn’t having millions in the bank.
It’s being able to sleep peacefully at night knowing that whatever life throws at you, you and your family will be okay. ❤️
Out of 8, ilan ang meron ka na?
8/8 = Future-ready
5-7 = Good progress
0-4 = Tara, pag-usapan natin. 😊
