I did not personally know Rene Baterbonia, and to be honest, I was not even aware of his achievements while he was alive. What caught my attention were the many heartfelt posts and tributes from people who knew him, admired him, and whose lives he touched.
Out of curiosity, I searched and read more about him. What struck me most was not only his accomplishments, but the overwhelming number of people mourning his loss. It is a reminder that a person's true legacy is measured not only by awards or titles, but by the lives they inspire and the memories they leave behind.
In a way, his story feels a little closer to home for me because we share roots in Agusan del Sur. I was born at the Provincial Hospital in Prosperidad and spent my early childhood in San Francisco before our family moved elsewhere.
Rest in peace, Rene Baterbonia. Though I never had the privilege of knowing you personally, your story reached me, and the impact you made on others speaks volumes about the life you lived.
