💰 Coaches: Are You Paying Yourself… or Just Paying Your Business?

Here’s something I see often in growing businesses:

Revenue is increasing.

Clients are coming in.

The business is busy.

But the owner is still paying themselves whatever happens to be left over.

That isn’t a compensation strategy.

As a coaching business grows, your owner pay should become an intentional financial decision—not an afterthought.

Here are a few questions I encourage coaches to ask:

1️⃣ What does the business actually afford?
Look beyond the current bank balance. Consider recurring revenue, operating expenses, taxes, debt, and upcoming commitments.

2️⃣ Is your compensation sustainable?
A large owner draw during a strong month may feel great—but can create problems when revenue dips.

3️⃣ Are you separating business growth from personal income?
Reinvesting everything back into the business isn’t always the best strategy.

4️⃣ Are you pricing your coaching offers to support your desired compensation?
Your pricing should account for delivery costs, overhead, taxes, profit, and the income you want as the owner.

5️⃣ Do you have a plan for increasing your compensation?
Your personal income should ideally grow as the business becomes more profitable—not only when there’s “extra money” in the bank.

As a Virtual CFO and Bookkeeping partner for coaches, I believe your financial reports should help answer questions like:

📊 How much can I safely pay myself?
📈 Can I afford to hire?
💵 How much should stay in the business?
🎯 What revenue do I need to reach my income goal?
🔎 Which offer is actually supporting my growth?

Because building a successful coaching business isn’t just about creating more revenue.

It’s about creating a business that can support the person who built it.

Coaches, here’s a question:

Do you have a specific owner-pay strategy—or do you simply take what’s left after expenses?

A Lesson I Needed to Hear 🤍

Yesterday, our coach Lani De Vera-Abella shared a video of Ms. Iza Calzado speaking at her alma mater. One sentence really stayed with me:

“Take that step. The right time is always now.”

It made me reflect on my own journey.

There was a time when I kept delaying my dream of pursuing a virtual career. Not because I didn’t want it, but because I doubted myself. I thought I wasn’t good enough, that I lacked the confidence, and that maybe I couldn’t do it.

Then I realized something…

There will always be another reason to wait. Another excuse to postpone. Another fear telling us we’re not ready.

It’s amazing how one message can inspire you, and how the right mentor can give you the courage to act on it.

I’m also thankful that one day, I came across on my coach Facebook. Following her has been one of the biggest blessings in this journey. Through her daily tips, encouragement, and the way she challenges us to think differently, she slowly helped change my mindset. She didn’t just teach me new skills—she helped me believe I was capable of pursuing this path.

But growth doesn’t begin when we feel ready.

It begins when we decide to start.

I’m still learning. I’m still growing. But I’m grateful I chose to take that first step instead of letting fear make my decisions.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time” to chase a dream, start a business, change careers, or simply believe in yourself…

Maybe this is your sign.

Take that step. The right time is always now. 🤍

What’s one thing you’ve been putting off because of fear? Maybe today is the day to begin.

💡 Virtual CFO Tip

Cash Flow Is More Important Than Revenue.

A business can generate impressive sales and still struggle if cash isn’t available when it’s needed.

Revenue tells you how much you’ve earned.

Cash flow tells you whether your business can operate, grow, and seize new opportunities.

Healthy cash flow helps you:
✅ Pay your team and expenses on time
✅ Invest confidently in growth
✅ Prepare for slower seasons
✅ Make better financial decisions with less stress

As a business owner, don’t just ask:

“How much did we make?”

Also ask:

“How much cash is actually available to move the business forward?”

Financial clarity starts with understanding where your money is going—not just how much is coming in.

📩 If you’re a coach in the USA looking to improve cash flow, increase profitability, and gain financial clarity, let’s connect and explore how Virtual CFO Services can support your business.

💭 Saturday Business Mindset

The Numbers Don’t Build the Business—The Decisions Do.

Many business owners believe that growing revenue automatically leads to success.

It doesn’t.

A business can generate impressive sales and still struggle with cash flow, low profitability, or financial stress.

The difference isn’t always how much money comes in—it’s how well financial decisions are made.

The most successful coaches don’t just focus on attracting more clients. They also understand their numbers, protect their profits, and make decisions based on data instead of guesswork.

Business growth isn’t about working harder.
It’s about making smarter decisions.

Because when your finances are clear, your confidence grows—and so does your business.

✨ Business Mindset for Today:

Profit isn’t an accident. It’s the result of intentional financial decisions.

Have a productive and purpose-filled Saturday!
