PICPA CAGAYAN SPREADS YULETIDE CHEER AT ASP TUGUEGARAO’S MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

TUGUEGARAO CITY – The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) – Cagayan Chapter ignited the holiday spirit by partnering with the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) – Tuguegarao Chapter for a joyous Christmas celebration on 13 December 2025 at SM City Tuguegarao, sharing the warmth of the season and marking the vibrant first anniversary of the ASP Tuguegarao Chapter.

Under the inspiring leadership of ASP Tuguegarao President Ms. Marian Kathyrn D. Alamo, ASP Tuguegarao organized a heartwarming program themed “One Year of Inclusion, Celebrating Neurodiversity.” The event radiated energy as children on the spectrum, their families, and dedicated advocates converged to celebrate a year of breaking barriers and fostering acceptance.

PICPA Cagayan Chapter actively participated in the festivities, providing thoughtful contributions for the children and families. This collaboration highlights the Chapter’s commitment to social responsibility and its "Action with Impact" agenda.

In his festive remarks, PICPA Cagayan President Steven B. Bañez, CPA, expressed his admiration for the organization’s milestones.

"On behalf of the PICPA Cagayan Chapter, I extend our sincere congratulations to ASP-Tuguegarao for hosting this magnificent event! Thank you for allowing us to share the true joy of Christmas with all of you," President Bañez noted. "We are honored to mark this second year of our festive partnership. We truly value this relationship and are eager to foster even broader collaboration with ASP-Tuguegarao in the future, not just during the holidays."

The success of the holiday outreach was made possible through the dedicated coordination of Ms. Jacqueline E. Verbo, CPA, whose efforts ensured a seamless and impactful experience for all participants.

PICPA CAGAYAN DELEGATES GAIN STRATEGIC INSIGHTS AT 80TH ANC ON FUTURE OF ACCOUNTING

METRO MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) - Cagayan Chapter dedicated four days to professional development and strategic planning during the 80th Annual National Convention (ANC) held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from 16-19 November 2025.

The convention, which gathered Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) from the government, academe, public practice, and commerce and industry sectors nationwide, centered on preparing the profession for the future through comprehensive technical sessions.

The PICPA-Cagayan delegation maximized their participation by attending sessions dedicated to bridging knowledge gaps and leveraging emerging technologies. Highlights included the following:

1. Keynote and Leadership. A powerful keynote address was delivered by Hon. Antonio T. Carpio, Former Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, on the theme "Action with Impact." Plenary sessions also covered the critical topics of Managing and Understanding Gen Z in the workplace and Talent retention and upskilling to navigate workforce gaps in the age of AI and remote work.
2. Technology & Global Alignment. The core focus of the technical sessions was on innovation, including "What’s new on AI," "The future-ready accountant: thriving in the age of AI, agility, and global opportunities," and "Bridging the gap: aligning local accounting standards with global best practices."
3. Sector-Specific Compliance. Officers and members engaged in vital sector-specific sessions on compliance and governance, covering topics such as QAR Preparedness for public practice, Implementing RP Valuation Reforms for the government sector, and Choosing the right ERP for financial reporting in the commerce and industry sector.

The convention also featured essential updates from the Board of Accountancy (BOA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and Commission on Audit (COA).

President Steven Bañez and the attending officers and members confirmed that this opportunity successfully capacitated the chapter to deliver enhanced service and further advocate for the professional development of CPAs in the Cagayan region.

Chapter Excellence Recognized During the Convention

The PICPA Cagayan Chapter’s dedication to excellence was formally acknowledged during the ANC awards ceremony. The chapter secured the Most Outstanding Chapter (Category B )Award, recognizing its exemplary performance in professional growth and governance.

Immediate Past President Ms. Monaliza V. Guzman, CPA, was honored with the Most Outstanding Chapter President Award for her dedicated leadership during the award period. The Chapter also received a Special Citation for the complete and timely submission of financial and administrative reports for the 1st Quarter of Fiscal Year 2025-2026, received by President Steven B. Bañez, CPA.

PICPA National Board Names Cagayan Chapter ‘Most Outstanding,’ Honors Immediate Past President Guzman

TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) has conferred its highest organizational honors upon the PICPA Cagayan Chapter, naming it the Most Outstanding Chapter for the immediate federation year 2024-2025, recognizing the Chapter’s exemplary performance in professional development, community engagement, and member service throughout the year.

In a dual celebration of leadership excellence, the PICPA National Board of Directors also approved the conferment of the Most Outstanding Chapter President award to Ms. Monaliza V. Guzman, CPA, who served as the Chapter’s President during the award period.

The decision was made following a rigorous recommendation process by the Committee on Geographical Areas, Regions, Chapters and Affiliates (GARCA).

“This dual recognition is a testament to the hard work, strategic vision, and collective dedication of every CPA in the Cagayan Chapter,” said Ms. Guzman, Immediate Past President of PICPA Cagayan. “To be recognized at the national level highlights our success in translating our dedication into tangible results that benefit both our members and the wider community.”

The awards will be formally presented during PICPA’s Annual National Convention on 18 November 2025 at the SM Mall of Asia Convention Center in Pasay City.

PICPA Cagayan Partners with UCV-NSTP to Boost Student Financial Literacy

TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) – Cagayan Chapter, furthering its commitment to community service and public financial education, successfully hosted a comprehensive financial literacy seminar for students enrolled in the University of Cagayan Valley’s National Service Training Program (UCV-NSTP) on 17 October 2025, at the UCV Greyhounds venue.

The seminar was designed to equip young individuals with the fundamental skills necessary to navigate their personal finances as they prepare to enter the professional world. The robust curriculum covered five critical topics, with Ms. Rachelle Anne Guinucud, CPA, and Pres. Steven Bañez, CPA, as lecturers:

• Financial Planning
• Savings Strategies
• Effective Budgeting
• Debt Management
• Basics of Investing

The initiative was successfully coordinated through the efforts of Ms. Shannen D. Calimag, CPA, a key member of the PICPA Cagayan Chapter.

“Empowering the youth with strong financial literacy is an investment in our community’s future stability,” said Pres. Bañez. “We believe these essential skills—from budgeting to the basics of investing—are just as crucial as academic knowledge. PICPA-CAGAYAN WELCOMES NEW OFFICERS THRU INDUCTION, LEADERSHIP EVENT

With the current federation’s theme, “Action with Impact”, The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) - Cagayan Chapter celebrated its new fiscal year with an induction and leadership training of its new officers last 15 August 2025 at The CSU Hotel, Tuguegarao City.

Mr. Steven B. Bañez, the new President, kickstarted the event as he welcomed the members, guests, and participants.

"This is our first activity, with more to come, and I welcome you to the first activity for the fiscal year 2025-2026," he remarked.

Succeeding the welcoming remarks, Ms. Monaliza V. Guzman, Immediate Past President has delivered her valedictory address, extending her gratitude to everyone who supported her during her term.

"It has been a great privilege to me to have been chosen as, and to have the opportunity to be the chapter president of PICPA for fiscal year 2024-2025. In the past twelve (12) months, it has been the most hectic and action-packed journey of my life, but it is also a rewarding experience as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant)," she said.

Moreover, Ms. Editha Tan, Senior Regional Director of PICPA-Northern Luzon, officially charged the new set of officers with their duties. The following leaders will serve to advance the professional development and strengthen the camaraderie of the CPAs of Cagayan:

Ms. Tan also delivered an inspiring message and challenged the new set of officers for an impactful leadership.

“Remember, vision alone is not enough. Vision without action remains only a dream. And action without vision can lose its way. When the two come together, that is where you make a lasting impact, not just for yourself but for everyone whose life is being touched by you," she said.

To fomally close the event, Sir Miguel F. Lim, Sr., a PICPA-Cagayan Consultant, delivered a humorous and heartfelt address. He began with classic jokes that filled the room with laughter before reciting the moving prose-poem, Desiderata, by Max Ehrmann.

He then addressed the young PICPAns and JPIA members directly, saying, "I always tell young people, especially this JPIAns, my generation failed you. My generation failed your generation. Look at our country now. There's so much bicker, there's so much hatred, there's so much lying.”

He added that the accounting profession is important in efforts toward transparency in transactions, noting that it is how important the role of accountants is.

“So do something about this country. I hope your generation, young JPIAns, will do better than my generation," he expressed.

The event was made possible with the help of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA)-Cagayan State University Chapter, led by its President, Ms. Sophia Bobillo, and was hosted by Ms. Rosalie Pineda, a 3rd year BS Accountancy student at Cagayan State University.

"Understanding Others by Understanding You" Leadership Training

Meanwhile, as part of the event, Dean Arthur Sonday III, PICPA - Regional Sectoral Representative for Education in Northern Luzon, led an impactful discussion on "Understanding Others by Understanding You." The topic focused on how to deal with and work with people with diverse background within an organization.

During the training, participants completed a questionnaire that intends to identify their personality types and were lectured on the strengths and weaknesses of the dominant, influential, steady, and corrective personality types. "This chapter is a mixture of young ones and young-once, so it is really a very interesting chapter. You must learn how to synergize to create value," he said.

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Cagayan Chapter has had a highly productive quarter, highlighted by a series of significant accomplishments and partnerships. The Chapter's President, Mrs. Monaliza V. Guzman, was nationally recognized with an outstanding achievement award at the PICPA Ball Graduation and Recognition Night. The chapter also focused on professional development and community engagement through various initiatives. They co-hosted a successful joint webinar with the PICPA La Union Chapter on labor laws, which was presented by Atty. Rodel T. Lopico, to help members master essential regulations on working conditions. Additionally, in a move to promote financial literacy, the chapter partnered with Cagayan State University to host a seminar aimed at empowering women and students with knowledge on budgeting, saving, and investing. The PICPA Cagayan Chapter proudly showcased its active engagement this quarter: attending the 2025 LGAO Conference in Pangasinan, being selected for the Adopt-a-Chapter Program by PICPA Northern Metro Manila, and collaborating with PRC for a webinar highlighting CPDAS updates.
