Do you mean that fires aren't covered by HDB fire insurance?！

What would happen if your neighbor set fire to your entire street with a subpar, illegal electric PMD? However, you are not quite as covered as you believe. In fact, if you didn't voluntarily get a separate home insurance policy, you'll likely need to empty your piggy bank in order to restore your house to livable, non-charred condition.

If you reside in public housing, you might recall that when you applied for your HDB loan, HDB fire insurance was made mandatory.

The building's damages are covered by HDB fire insurance. The walls and electrical wiring in your home as they were when you first moved in, for example, would be considered the original structural components. However, it does not protect newly refurbished fixtures like your flooring or walk-in wardrobe, nor does it protect the contents of your house, such as furniture, appliances, and personal items.
