At IMA’s “US-CMA Qualification and FP&A” session in Tokyo, finance and business leaders explored the growing importance of FP&A capabilities and the future of finance in an AI-driven world.

Key insights:
• Zenichiro Ishibashi, Co-Representative of IMA Japan Chapter, emphasized that many Japanese companies still lack strong FP&A functions and highlighted the US-CMA as an effective framework for developing finance professionals who can bridge strategy, planning, and value creation.
• Peter J. Dolan, Honorary Chairman of the IMA Global Board, shared how AI is transforming finance by automating data collection and reporting, enabling professionals to focus on forecasting, risk management, governance, and decision-making
• Nina Michels-Kim, IMA Global Board Member, reflected on how earning the US-CMA strengthened her professional credibility and opened leadership opportunities throughout her global finance career.

IMA and the Japan Management Accounting Association (JAMA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance management accounting education and professional development in Japan. This collaboration aims to strengthen global talent development, scholarships, research initiatives, student certifications, and continuing professional education opportunities.

Key initiatives include:
• US-CMA Scholarship Program for qualified JAMA members
• Exploration of a JAMA-FMAA student certification program
• Collaborative research and thought leadership initiatives
