If you’re aged 55 or above, your Special Account (SA) has been closed on 19 Jan 2025.

Your SA savings have been transferred to your Retirement Account (RA), up to your cohort’s Full Retirement Sum (FRS), where they will continue earning the long-term interest rate from Jan 2025 onwards.

If you’ve already set aside your FRS—whether fully in cash or with a mix of property and cash—any remaining SA savings have been transferred to your Ordinary Account (OA), giving you the flexibility to withdraw them when needed. If you would like to continue earning the higher interest rate of 4% per annum and enjoy higher retirement payouts, you can transfer these OA savings to your RA up to the current year’s Enhanced Retirement Sum (ERS). This transfer is irreversible and can be made anytime.

Wondering how the Special Account (SA) closure for those aged 55 and above, starting early 2025, may impact your CPF savings? Check out this handy illustration.

The closure of the SA for members aged 55 and above is intended to better align CPF interest rates with the purpose of the savings in each CPF account, ensuring that only the money specifically saved for retirement earns the higher long-term interest rate. If you have already set aside your Full Retirement Sum (FRS), any remaining SA savings will be transferred to your Ordinary Account (OA), earning short-term interest, which you can withdraw as needed. You can also choose to transfer these OA savings to your RA up to the raised Enhanced Retirement Sum (ERS) to receive higher payouts.

You can view the estimated amounts that will be transferred from your SA to your RA and/or OA by logging in to your Retirement dashboard here: cpf.gov.sg/RetirementDashboardFB
