Does having a valid Tax Invoice mean you can automatically claim back the GST?

Not necessarily.

For GST-registered businesses in Singapore, a Tax Invoice is only one piece of evidence.

What matters is whether the underlying transaction actually took place and whether it can be properly supported by records such as payment documents, contracts, delivery notes, or evidence that the service was provided.

A Tax Invoice cannot make a non-existent transaction real.

If fake invoices or inflated transactions are used to make fraudulent GST refund claims, the consequences can be serious.

This is why GST compliance is not simply about keeping invoices. It is about making sure the entire transaction is genuine, properly documented, and able to withstand scrutiny.
